rhys currently lives in paris now, but made his name in NYC as a giant in the field of classical guitar compositions, centered around the use of electric guitar. along w/ Glenn Branca (under whom people like Thurston Moore, Lee Renaldo (both Sonic Youth) and Paige Hamilton (Helmet) worked), he carved out this niche of thunderous cacophony and an ear towards the blessed state of repetition and drone, sometimes employing tens if not literally hundreds of guitarists.

he was on a rare US tour and played w/ David Daniell, while recruiting like-minded players in each city. for the boston show, notable luminaries such as Chris Brokaw and Keith Whitman Fullerton were called upon to augment the lineup.

the small stage and cramped quarters meant it was tough to capture everyone, although i brought my 17-55 for the 1st time in a concert setting, the light was too dim for a f/2.8 lens, and these were all taken using my 30 or 50 (and mostly @ ISO 3200).

I like #3 and #5.
#3 is a common look for musicians-can tell he's concentrating on another player.

I like #2. That constitution of musicians is rare, especially in an on-stage setting. It's different, it's cool. Me gusta. Pity about the lone guitar head sneaking into the guy's head on the way right. You did what you could. Nice shot.

I like #5 best, but would crop a bit off top, bottom and right. #6 is nice as well.
#2 would have been very nice if it weren't for the headstock...

God, why are so many of these guys ugly? Nice captures though.

[BTW, Rene, I shot everything (a couple of hundred images) on my Club Med Cancun vacation in RAW+L so I could play and get experience ... but they aren't appropriate here. I'm also starting through Adobe PS CS for Photographers by Martin Evening ... and have another tome or two to follow ... I'm getting closer.]

i was debating about the crop of 5...ultimately i left his hands in the lower right, as it didn't seem right to crop 'em out. i also wanted to maintain the 2:3 ratio.

I like # 1 and # 5...the facial expressions are more appealing.

I didn't mean to crop the hands:
I meant to crop the other side. Like this more or less:
