Took this 2 nights after the previous images, only just processed it late last night. Decided to do a nice border, not sure on the blueish outer section. Fiddled with inner glow/outer glow/drop shadow etc, still not comfortable with using them.

Nice trapdoor, Maybe an earthy tone for the border might work better

Spotted it a few weeks ago when out walking the dogs. First Trapdoor spider I've seen in the area to be honest. Actually, the first trapdoor that I've noticed in 30 years or so. I was a terror when I was younger, and I'm ashamed to admit it, but I used to torment the local trapdoor spiders where I lived by poking sticks down the hole and pouring water down there in order to flush them out...I regret doing what I did when I was a kid, but it's done now and the water is under the bridge. Now I just marvel nature's beauty and try and capture it as best as possible with my camera.

a canidid admission there dpastern, i'm sure we've all done things as children we later regrtetted in life, is good to see you've mended your ways by capturing this great shot. Are these things poisonous?

All spiders are poisonous, just most of them don't affect humans. Trapdoor spiders can make a human feel rather sick, with dizziness, some muscle spasming, pain around the bite area, headaches and nausea/vomiting that will last for a few hours. You might not suffer all of the above, and it varies from person to person. You don't really want to get bitten by one. These are mygalomorphs, ie. primitive spiders, which usually have a higher venom rate than araneomorph, ie. modern spiders. One variation of trapdoor spider, the mouse spider is highly dangerous, and can kill a human, especially a bite from the male. In fact, scientists now think that a lot of the previous funnelweb bites were actually mouse spider bites (the anti venon works on both bites thankfully).

That's a 100% better than the last few shots, fantastic... I'm not usually controversial, but I have to agree about the frame, it's a little distracting... ;)

How about a Mouse Spider image??
I'm not going near one of those suckers. If I see a mouse spider or funnelweb spider, I have enough commonsense to move slowly away in the opposite direction, with my eyes firmly on the sucker to make sure it doesn't get anywhere near me. Both spiders can, and do jump. Both spiders are highly aggressive. Both spiders are deadly, and not to be trifled with.
Here's a good page on some of these wonderful (but deadly) spiders:

Thanx for the Mouse Spider Web site. I have just decided to cancel my holiday in Australia. I refuse to be on the same continent as those Mouse Spiders. How DO you people survive in that country? EVERYTHING is poisonous.

Not everything is poisonous, our women might have venomous tongues, but they're quite desirable ;) On a serious note, we do have quite a fair few dangerous species on our continent, I suspect this is due to the fact that Australia was isolated from the super continent very early on in the history of our planet's evolution, and being isolated, things haven't changed much.
