It's about that time of year again! Time to pull out the gear and sell folks photos of their dogs in action.

One service I offer is the ability for them to purchase a CD with several photos of their own dog right on the spot.

Does someone have an example of a limited use contract I could have the buyer sign when handing over the CD? I'm just looking for something to get me started on the right path, of course, I'll modify the contract to suit my needs.

BTW - Just out of curiosity. If I take a podium shot of the top 3 placing dogs, do I need a model release from each of them to sell them the photo?

Thanks in advance!
Chris

Chris, I can't help you with the contract but, a word of advise on selling the podium pictures. Make sure you have a release from the organizing body.

If you sell to the general public it would be a good idea to get a release from everyone in the shot, and the organization, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the advice.

I think a decent way around much of the hassle would be to only photograph the dogs/handlers one at a time instead of as a group with the top three. Then, the big winners would sign a release for their photos to be used in magazines or sale to third parties. That should work.

Thanks,
Chris

Do you need a model release from thse who have entered into a public competition?

Just curious,. because I thought you did not.

You wouldn't need a model release to submit any images to a magazine or newspaper, that would be strictly an editorial use. However, if you were to make those same images for sale to the general public, you may need a model release as well as a release from the show sanctioning body.

Any commercial use, i.e. dog food adverts, shampoo, flea collars etc, anything used in the commercial way would require a release.
