In New Zealand. Over at another forum rampant with rumors and fighting. Need more hints? ;) I will not give a link here.
Anyway, it ain't at my house so I don't care, but nice to know they're starting to ship...

I can't wait to see pictures from y'all that are getting them. I think that Canon ought to contact a few folks here for their next batch of "samples".

I know I will probably get bagged for this but I've just played with a D1 mkII it's a pretty cool beast, it's just a pity I can't afford one. However this is not what I'm going to get bagged over, Canon in NZ have released their official price list, on it is a 10Ds as well as the 10D. I was pretty sure that this is a cock up but the camera store owner was pretty sure it wasn't and an updated 10D will be shipping in the next couple of weeks. That said I won't believe it until I can see one and put it in my hand and play with it.

Well to bag myself I just contacted Canon NZ and they have said that it's a typo. Bugger almost got me excited.

Particularly when the same guy goes through some pretty extreme gyrations when testing the Pro-1 camera.
I really wish he'd at least taken some nice pictures. I can accept that he doesn't want to really test it, but why post stuff that non-pro "I" could have taken with my Olympus P&S film camera (OK, admittedly, that is a pretty good P&S, but it isn't a 1D Mk II)?
Something tells me that they wouldn't let him out of their sight with the 1D Mk II and that is why he didn't give it a technically sound test. Either that or he didn't want to have a Canon outshine every other camera available.

Hmmm....So this Darren guy from NZ is a tester and that is NOT a release camera?? Or are you talking about something else?

I think a point-n-shoot fits certain shooters better.

I guess someone would go to the trouble of changing the box, owners manuals to read 1D mark II? It appears the box was hurridly opened and the battery quickly placed in the charger...
Who knows. Time will tell.

Naaaah. Someone else in OZ or NZ also reports getting their MKII. The photos look real on this one. A reviewer would not be able to get away with this and ever review for Canon again so I think this is real...

Yup they now have them instore, the price is the killer just over $11,000 kiwi. At the moment in NZD is worth .67 USD, so we are being ripped off yet again, BTW a 10D costs $3,000 and a 300D $1999.

Hey Jim,
The guy on Dpreview's Forum looks legit, but I would not put it past someone to do a fake. Anyways, he has posted a few test shots of a boat. Looks like he shot them in complete darkness. He says this is his first "1" series body. I am expecting a pretty steep learning curve going from the D60 to a "1" body myself. Seems the 1D has a bunch more settings than I am used to.

Yeah what's so steep about it? The mark II still has idiot modes doesn't it?

Yeah right....If it doesn't have a portait and sports setting, I am sending it back!
Basics will be the same.
I am talking about white balance settings, focus point selections and the stuff I don't even think about on the D60...
Ya'll lighten up on me a bit, you are going to hurt my feeling.

No the 1 bodies do not have the "idiot modes' there isn't even a dial. The cameras are very different from the D60/10D elan type bodies.. all the advanced functions are there and a lot more,. but the controls to access most of them are very different..
That said,. if you are truly comfortable with the 10D types,. you'll have the 1D working for you by your second shoot.. and you'll have it set up the way you want it by the fourth time if you apply yourself..
In a nutshell,. if you think it will be very steep,. you may be pleasantly surprised,.BUT if you think it will be a peice of cake,. your in for a shock.

It'd be cheaper to fly to the states and pick one up.
If you take the US price of $4500US and convert it to NZ$ and add GST you would be looking at aroung $8000NZ. Buy it retail here in NZ and be $3000 poorer.
I bought my 550EX flash from B&H, paid $600NZ incl freight and GST. Local stores wanted $869 to $979 for the same product.
The 10D and 300D prices aren't so bad, only a little over priced. If they sold the 1D MkII here for $9000 then that would be more reasonable.

Based on level of dust on images and fact that no one else has retail Mark II yet, I'm pretty sure that his camera is just one of those demo cameras (preproduction).

I'll believe they have been shipped when someone on this forum has posted images of ducks, geese or trains.
Next the measurebators.
