Is this real, or a joke?

Ir's real. It's a Digital Kiss, the japanese name of the Rebel. The Kiss has a black version too (look at Canon japanese site)

Yup looks pretty cool, it's amazing what a good colour can do, makes it look far more professional and less cheesy/cheap.

Very cool. The all black does sleeker and more professional. Oh well but I still LOVE my silver USA DRebel!

But my next Canon will be one of the higher up EOS's. Any recommendations? :D;)

Isn't it amazing how much just the color seems to contribute to the camera's position in the food chain?

We are so silly sometimes.

Any chance that Canon USA will release the black 300D as a facelifted model?

Oooohhhhh...nice!
Personally I almost didn't buy my tivo because it's silver and I can't stand silver electronics, personally I just think it looks tacky and black looks much more professional. I guess it's all in what you like.

WOW!!! I used to say "Silver is okay............It's not too bad". But seeing this baby in black..................It's a whole different story............Simply beautiful!!! :D

Maybe I'll have the silver one as my back-up camera ;-)

And, dear friends, all of the prior discussion is one very good reason why Canon is unlikely to market a Black Drebel - the color alone may drive some customers to the next highest model.

Not to mention that by August the Drebel will be one year old - time to supercede it :!: (although they may try to squeeze a few sales out of a black version)

EDIT: So then I think about this for a minute and perhaps this is Canon's first shot back at the Nikon D70 - a higher quality image AND the hot color - Could raise the heat on the 'N' boys...

No-one has yet mentioned the translucent orange version emanating from the southern californian desert.

I know I would buy one!

Well if its from the Californian desert.............It must be good.

No doubt about it.

Does the black 300d kit lens come with USM? According to those pics, it does!

If they really wanted to go all the way, they should have stamped the word "PROFESSIONAL" along the front of the camera.

Yes they get a usm kit lens
Don't be jealous though,it's just a marketing thing like the vast majority of consumer usm lenses.I've had non usm lenses that are super quiet and fast and usm ones that are noisey and slow (comparable models)

....and then there's the 75-300 that is slooow with either motor :P :P

There will be at least one person on this forum that will put thier silver drebel on EBay and buy a black KISS.

...and soon you will see test comparing the image quality from both cameras claiming that the black version produces sharper images, so the "maximizers" can use that as the justification for switching colors. ...rather than just switching for the color itself.

With all that being said, the black version does look better. (I'm a 10D owner.)

Well, it's really easy for me to sit back and be critical of all these shallow people getting all pumped up over the aesthetics of the camera. After all, I already own a black camera (10D) so this all seems really dumb....

…..until I remember many years ago.

When Canon brought out the all black AE-1, I simply had to have one, and I did. Functionally identical to my old black and chrome version, I just felt so much more competent with it. At least I though I looked a lot better. I gave the older one to my mother who used it for years, happily and capably. But then, what did she know?

People really are funny.

All Kiss models (silver or black) came with USM kit lenses from the begining.

Black D Rebel? cool! :D
Black 10D? very cool :)

I'm holding off buying white "L" lenses until they give me a camera to match

It's good that Canon finally realized that the silver-white Drebal looks like a shiny plastic toy. Black is a much better color for the baby. I hate the shiny Drebal look.
