I am going to be driving from Florida to Jackson, Wyoming in May sometime; I need advice for birding. My tentative plan is to go west into Texas and go down into the southern area near Corpus Christi and then west to Big Bend, spending a few days in each place. I am also thinking that I will spend a few days in the panhandle of Florida looking for a certain woodpecker from my canoe.

Any thoughts on those locations and perhaps suggestions on places to visit there, alternate routes, alternate stops, comments, questions, people wanting to join me, etc?

I'm up here in Ontario, so cant be much help, but was in Florida a couple of weeks ago. There were a number of easily accessible wetlands just west of Titusville (south of the Kennedy Space Center) where there are numerous species of birds. Many of them are migratory so I'm not sure what things will be like in May. It sounds like you are planning a wonderful trip.

Yeah - it should be really wonderful (although my heart is here in Florida now and leaving makes me very sad) but I will get to visit some of the greatest birding locations in the country.

Titusville and the Space Coast are all places I'll be visiting while I'm still living here (and have visited), wonderful area...

Anybody at all from the Panhandle? Louisiana coast? Texas coast? Rio Grande Valley? West Texas? Anywhere between Texas and Wyoming?
