wanted to get some business cards with one of my actual images on there as opposed to clipart. i like the simplicity of this idea, but i think it might lack information?

What kind of photography do you do, commercially? Weddings? You've posted in the wedding forum. Your card and website have nothing to do with weddings. Looks like top right of image is a bit dark, did you vignette?
Also the image on your home page is 400KB! Get it down to 100KB or less, that's just way too big.

I don't think that the text on your name is going to work when it's printed at 2x3.5 inches. For business cards you want to stick to fairly high contrast graphics and text because of the small size.

Totally agree with Tim and Stefanie, the image is not working, neither does the text. Back to the drawing board.

I have found that simplicity in a business card is best. It is more elegant, and it stands out from the rest.

yeah, I like simple. My business card doesn't even have a photo on it at all, and eveybody says it's a card they'll never throw out 'cause it's too cool. LOL :)
I agree that if you are doing weddings, you should at least use a wedding picture. Yours almost looks like a travel agent's card. If you do commercial and babies too, have a commercial and baby version. Target your market. Or you can do away with pictures completely and go the simple route.

yes, did vignette, and thanks for the advice on the file size (that's my first time trying to do a website, pretty much have to re-do the whole thing)
i'm working as a second shooter for a wedding photography company out of massachusets this season (first one april 7th) other than that, i've only shot as a guest at some weddings. also doing some portraiture.

yup, people go crazy over them. especially if you pass one out at a reception, they go around and show it off to everyone for you. It's cool.

That sounds really cool Lloyd, do you have a photo of what they look like? Or a link?
Was it something that is a standard product or were they completely custom?

The steel is etched with my info on it. It's not a standard design. I made it myself in Adobe Illustrator. They have very specific guidelines for files they will accept and it took me a couple tries to get it right. (i.e. rules for overlapping vectors and such) It ended up costing me about C$5 a card. Crazy? Yes. But I'm also a crazy guy. ;)

Dang 5 bucks a card is out of my league. Hah. I don't charge David Jay prices though either.

That's a brilliant marketing idea. Like you said, it gets passed around and everyone sees it and talks about it. $5 and probably worth every penny.

that is a cool card, is it heavy?

A stack of 100 is quite heavy. But one card in your hand, it's hardly anything. Nobody comments on it's weight.

need to get me some those, but i'd probably never submit my design, i'd be scared i didn't like it, and at that price you gotta like it.
