Hi all, I am having a slight problem. I was given some advice to shoot in Raw only to free up room on my card. Now when I put card reader in computer it says I have no images on my card. Is this because I have no JPEG files to go with the Raw or what. If I go to my computer and select the drive my storage card is in and manually select the folders and copy all pictures into a new folder and then open in photoshop everything opens fine. I just need to make sure there is nothing wrong with my card. Any tips would be appreciated

Some operating systems don't seem to recognize RAW files, there should be a patch/upgrade.

If I go to my computer and select the drive my storage card is in and manually select the folders and copy all pictures into a new folder and then open in photoshop everything opens fine
That's all I ever do...why not just do it this way from now on?

so if you can manually drag and drop the pictures, in what way does it say you have no images on your card? they may not show up as thumbnails (mini pictures) but that might be because you need an update.

When I stick my CF in the computer, windows automatically pops up with the camera wizard. This is how I always copied my pictures to the computer before I started shooting in just Raw. I guess this wizard just doesn't know what to do if there is now jpeg with it. Thanks any way for the help. I will just keep playing with the card and settings.

The fewer 'Windows wizards' that you use...the better :D

Maybe your Windows version doesn't recongise the file extension (CR2?) as an image file. You can download the Microsoft RAW Image Viewer, which may help.

I just copy the card to a HDD folder and open in Photoshop, works fine.

You image-viewer / downloader is not recognizing the raw files...like Big Mike says...you need to download a patch. Unfortunately some non-photography programs don't recognize RAW and don't have patches for Canon CR2. In that case I would reccommend using the software bundled with your camera to download your pictures....or purchasing Photoshop or similar software.

Go to Microsoft web site for an update to Windows to permit it to recognize the RAW files and view them.
