This is my baby, Flipper. He is Mr. Personality. He is a gorgeous mastiff pictured here with my neice and nephew. Want comments / suggestions to improve upon this image.

Here is my other baby, Blaze. She is a very dark apricot brindle with a beautiful coat. Here she is self-stacking. How can I get her color out more?

Thanks for any input. I am a newbie with a Canon Eos 10d.

The first pic: The nephews feet are visible when the niece's aren't - which isn't so bad, but the fact that they get cut off from the frame is a little bad. This image could use some contrast - it's a touch washed out. It also looks a little soft, but that could be contrast.

The second is great, but could also use a touch more contrast. The fence(?) wire going across his eyes is a little distracting.

These are very good - a couple touches could make them great or better,

If you shoot RAW then you will have more post processing opportunites open to you & you will be able to bump up the saturation and contrast a bit. You can use programs like Capture One / BreezeBrowser / Photoshop CS to do this.

Alternatively, to get more colourful images straight out of the camera when shooting JPEG you could bump up the saturation and contrast a bit using the camera's colour parameters. see page 56 in the manual.

The grass in the last image looks slightly "blown out" to me, the sun was probably quite harsh so underexposing by half a stop might have improved it. Maybe its just me but I find the images out of my 10D always seem to be slightly too bright when it's sunny...

Thanks for the suggestions. I did shoot in "raw". The only software I have right now is Photoshop Elements.

What specifically do I need to do to boost up the saturation and contrast?

Speaking as a 300D user, to alter the said parameters you would need to set the camera to a creative mode, and in the first page of the LCD menu select the 'Parameters' option from the bottom. Go into setup and set either 1 2 or 3 to have higher contrast and/or more colour saturation.
There is further detail on these settings in the manual.

A further trick to try (I haven't tested this as yet) is to buy a polarizing filter which is supposed to give greater colour depth as well as other features. I'm currently watching a few on eBay but haven't tried out this method before.
Maybe another member who owns one could give further info on using this filter?
