I've been married about 2.5 years. My wife and I have a nice combined income. I used to spend all my single income.. damned the consequences. Now I want to save save save... for a house.. in the 401k etc. I would like to treat myself to some equipment but just can't bring myself to do it. I haven't treated myself since last November and even then it was just a 50 1.4
Anyone else get this post marriage disease?

It's a male only disease... For some reason, women remain unaffected after the wedding... ;)

YES! I "treated" myself to a Sigma 17-70 after selling my kit lens and 75-300. I still wasn't completely sure I wanted to spend the money. I'm hoping some day it'll all be worth it.

Ain't that the truth, after I get me flash. The brakes on buying will be on for a while, probally for 8 months till the cars are paid off ($500 month) woo hoo

PFt...I envy people that can get two cars for $500/month. I can't even pay that for my one!!
As for the OP, I think you should perhaps set aside a certain amount each month for spending. Say, for example, you put aside $100 a month. Each year, you get yourself a $1200 gift! Not bad for socking away a few bucks. Now...I understand not everyone can just not use 100 bucks each month, but do whatever's comfortable for you. You don't want to blow your retirement...that's a nice thing to have. ;-)

Everyone goes through this. You obviously must have treated yourself alot previously as it has only been roughly 4 months since your last "treat" and you are feeling the withdrawals.
I can remember going through this after getting married. I was lucky enough to have a wife that supported my hobby. In fact when we were still dating she took me down to the camera store and bought me a Pentax 6X7. I think it was about this time that I knew she was "the one". Not long after getting married is when I started to freelance seriously and set up a separate company account so my purchases were all funded by my photo work.
It sucks when you have to change your habits, particularly one were it can give you so much joy. Life is about setting priorities, goals and objectives. Getting a house is a very good objective and nothing to sneeze at. That was a proud day that we took possession of our first house. Then the priority switched paying off the mortgage, then kids, then..... you get the picture. If photography is just a hobby then you do have to decide what is important to you. Many will just go buy anyway, damn the consequences at home (been there, done that). I've seen marriages go down the tubes because someone's hobby got in the way.
You are going through a natural progression. You have alot more of these yet to come. Welcome to married life.:cool:

Yeah wait until you have kids :)
I'm in northern CA and once you bought a house here, you're practically broke for the next 30 years. Even though my wife and I make good income, I still couldn't afford to get the gears I wanted and have to save up for it.
Just buy one lens at a time and it won't be soo bad.
