I needed more storage so after installing a second HDD I installed a DVD +- RW drive :D .. already had a CD RW and decided to keep it.. Now older CD won't write, new DVD software won't use it, de-installed re-installed to no avail.. after many hours I decided what the heck. I now have all my back up on DVD,,no more CD :D God what I would give to go back to free standing software programs :? This interaction of software don't always work as planned or stated :D Why am I surprised after 31 years in the computer industry. Well I do have back up!!!! :D
Just needed to vent :D

I went through similar hoops to get my optical drives working...
It's all a big pain,. the worst was when the DVD and CD-RW stopped working for a period of months.. everytime I would try,. the burn would start and crash about 15% of th way into it.. (I went through more CD-R and DVD-Rs..)
Two different software apps,. two different burners,. same crash.
It turned out it was the RAID controller software update :(

I have a Philips DVD+RW in my computer, and since a few months there are 1-4x speed DVD+RW discs, which wouldn't work correctly with my drive. It only worked well with the old, 1x speed discs. On the Internet I found out that I needed to update the firmware of the drive - so I found the update, and it was even a hacked version that makes the drive region free - now it works again with the 1-4x discs (though only at 2.5x speed) and it's region free too! 8)
