I went along to the wildlife park yesterday, with the intention of getting some good shots from within this aviary (this is the only walkthrough one in the park). Unfortunately, it was close due to ground-nesting birds.

Had to shoot these through the tight mesh, so was fairly pleased...

And some escapees... But this shows the size of the mesh I was shooting through...

Great shots Pete and excellent exposure on the egg. Shooting through wire or mesh isn't a problem if can get close enough to it, like right up to it.

Many thanks, Mitch. You're dead right. I had the 100-400 right up against the fence, no hood or anything. Actually helps to have your hand against the mesh to stady the camera as well (just as long as there's nothing close by that can peck you...)

Still no idea what the bird is, I'll remember to remember some day...

Well, the escapees are Chickens. :D

Seen that first one posted here somewhere before, but have forgot the name. Not THAT bird, but one like it.

Yeah. I posted a couple of the same ones last year sometime. I think we found out what they were, but since then I've forgotten. Doh!
