My favorite was a few batches of some seriously nioce home brew I used to make..
We started with a Bass Ale like recipe and got a bit creative with it,. it was a wonderful fresh tasting Amber/Red ale, with peach undertones in its younger stage, after a few more months in the bottle it was less sweet, and .. well as I liked to say, it had "MaXimum Drinkability" ©
We also had a super tasty Scotch Ale that tasted like crap while bottling, (super sweet, like juju bees :( ) but aged to one of the best beers Id ever had in about 1 month.
Now of the commercial, it's hard to say
I do like Bass and Newcastle a lot, on a hot summer day I like the Blue Moon Belgian white.. I miss Pete's Wicked Ale which seems to have disappeared from our local shops..

Hmmm, I can't say I have one favorite beer. One of my favorites is Fat Tire by New Belguim Brewing in Colorado. If I'm on the east coast, I drink Yeungling from Pennsylvania. Some of my other fav's are Newcastle, Guiness, Sam Adams Seasonal (all of them), then a bunch of microbrew stuff that no one here has ever heard of.

Jeez, I gotta admit I never got seriously into the home brew or craft brew scene (married with kids tends to somewhat squelch the discretionary beer-drinking time). I liked almost any beer I got in Germany, but the "home" versions of the same beers were jokes. I guess I'll throw in a vote for San Miguel from the Philippines.

Yes, it is Newcastle from Newcastle, England. I tried Hoegarten once, it was horribly bitter and skunky, but I think I just got a bad bottle. I really dislike Stella, though, that's the only beer my wife even considers "drinkable."

Shiner Bock is my beer of choice.
There's a restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska called Lazlo's that has a small brewery attached called The Empyrian Brewing Company and they make a brew called Third Stone Brown that is nice. They have seasonal brews that are nice too...make a fine IPA.

Barley wine? Where on earth did you come up with that?
Beer is an alcoholic beverage usually made from malted cereal grain (as barley), flavored with hops, and brewed by slow fermentation.
Wine is an alcoholic beverage usually made from the fermented juice of fresh grapes or a plant product (such as a fruit).
As for the strongest beer...Boston Beer Company's Sam Adams Utopias MMII, at 24% alcohol by volume, holds that distinction.

As for the strongest beer...Boston Beer Co. has done it again, brewing a beer so strong they label it 48 proof, using terminology usually reserved for spirits. Sam Adams Utopias MMII, which goes on sale again this month, is in fact 24% alcohol by volume, making it the strongest commercial beer in the world.

Barley wine only applies to a specific type of ale. It is not a term that refers to beer in general and is not a classification of beer by alcohol content. Also in the US, it must be labeled barley wine style ale, because it isn't a wine at all.
Beer is a generic term for a brewed spirit. Then you have Ales (top fermented beer) and Lagers (bottom fermented beer). Some US states have silly laws that lead to the term malt liquor for beers that exceed a certain alcohol content.

Yup; Rice hulls as an adjunct is/are a way to get rice to clear faster while lautering (Draining liquid from the various grains that add flavor to beer)

Here's a photo of one of my precious little darlin's. Yes, that does say 1986 to the right of the bottle number. Not bad looking for a 21 year old!
I don't drink very often so other than Hardy's I can't say that I have a favorite. I try to pick out something new and different every time I go to the store. I still have a few Smithwick's Irish Ales left over from St. Patrick's Day.

Read the label some time. It's in no danger of meeting the Reinheitsgebot standards.
I'm insulted that you would even consider that I have some of that stuff on hand to read the label. I'll try to remember the next time I'm at the store.
OTOH one could always consider the best beer as the next beer

I like the Munich and other Bavarian beers. Particularly Oktoberfest, hefe-weissen, and helles styles. Paulaner and Ayinger come to mind. Just went for the first time to a great restaurant in D.C. called Old Europe and they had some great German beers. Don't remember the names, but they were my kind of beers.

A remarkably underrated beer that managed to be VERY good and from the U.S. and from a major company, long before most of the micro brews existed.. .
There's some on my fridge now.

I'll admit to never being a "room temp" beer drinker..
Just because the "Old World" folk did that first, doesn't mean things couldn't change with time.. I mean, England should have switched from "Room temp" to "Ice Cold" along about the time the ice box was invented
I mean it has bubbles,. even Wine aficionados know that bubbly is served chilled..

I like almost any beer, as long as it fits the COLD, CHEAP and LAGER categories.
OK, maybe I'm not TOO cheap - I once spent $400 on two cases of the best beer I ever tasted.

Umm, do tell? There's no way you would possibly think that the name of such a worthy investment wouldn't be questioned!

Homebrew.. :)
Around $400 was the total investment for a very nice set of homebrew supplies, glass carboy, capper, two cases of bottles, tubing, cleaning, large brew pot, hydrometer - etc.. Sure you can get a cheapie kit for under $100 but I guess that day I splurged for luxury. The cheap kit uses a plastic bucket for the fermentation period and theres a lot of moving the beer to and fro. I'd rather ferment it in glass (less room for contamination & easier to clean). Sanitation is absolutely positively necessary - if you've ever developed film, its about that tedious. Constantly making sure everything is completely clean.
Oh, that included everything needed for a darned nice batch of my local homebrew shop's Pale American lager too - grain, hops, yeast and malt extract. It was about a month from the second I started the process until I could pop open my first beer. It was completely worth the money and the wait. That was three years ago, and quite possibly the best summer ever.. I'm not much of a beer drinker - one or two every few days.
Can't wait to do it again. I've just been too busy. :(

Way too many to say I have a favorite. In a bar Guinness is my go to. Right at this very moment I'm drinking a Heine, fresh from the freezer. In a grocery store I tend to buy stuff that I've never had before.
All that said though, Budweiser is still piss.

In no particular order of preference:
Guinness, cold draft;
Bells Two Hearted Ale
Bells Oberon, especially now summer is on its way
Tuppers Hop Pocket
Breckenridge Small Batch 471 IPA - 9.2%
Hoegaarden
Leffe Blonde (can't get the Brun)
And for anyone who likes 'lite' beer, I'll pop round and pee in a glass, to save you the trouble of popping the cap and pouring it! If Budweiser is the king of beers, I'm the queen of sheba...

Favorite "store bought" is Sierra Nevada pale Ale (my first avatar), others are Fat Tire, Goose Island Honker's (I had a couple Saturday at the Red Carpet Club at Chicago O'Hare while United baggage handlers were destroying my luggage (see photo), Full Sail Pail Ale in Portland, Guinness, Bass, Boddington's; the IPA, ESB, Sacrilegious Stout, Paint Creek Porter from here http://www.beercos.com/. My own Pheasant Ring Porter, Cheap and Easy Blonde and Madura Pale Ale (all full mash).
Basically, to me, beer is like women. I never met one I didn't like, I just like some better than others.

Oh man, you guys are killing me with the Fat Tire.http://img90.exs.cx/img90/2365/k1ocray.gif
Haven't had one of those since I lived in Colorado back in 2000. I know I'll probably get some http://freeweb.supereva.com/esorciccio2002/smilies/yuk.gif from this, but at the time I lived with a Kiwi that introduced me to Strohs(as an everyday beer). It was actually alot better at room temp than it was cold. Every once and awhile we'd head down valley to a pub that had $5 Newkie pitcher nights, http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4816/248cc.gif don't remember much on those nights.
Other than that it depends on the mood I guess(really to many to list).
Edit:On a sidenote for Woolburr, I once visited a friend just south of you in Hendersonville and went to a place called Hannah Flanagans. No, not a drug dog. I was flying from Chicago to Detroit. The plane was fully boarded and when the gate attendants and flight attendants closed the door, a hinge broke. Well, since duct tape wouldn't hold it, we had to change planes. From what I can tell, somehow my bag fell off of the luggage trailer as the bags were being moved from one craft to the other and became snagged on something and was dragged across the tarmac for a couple of hundred yards. In other photos, I can see evidence of scraping on the rivets and skid plate.
