I have never used a light meter and haven't really read up much on them, but I was wondering what benefit they add. Are they a worthwhile investment? Could you guys provide me with any links to models you use? If I decide to get one, I don't want to break the bank, as I have already spent a lot of money on this hobby over the past 6 months. Any information you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I use a Sekonic L-358 which does everything I need it to do, including a flash meter that can remotely fire my strobes by adding a small add on module.

I googled Light Meters and there is a ton of results, many of which will give you the information that you are looking for.

The modern dSLR will greatly diminish the number of circumstances where a handheld meter is truly necessary. Many photographers may never put themselves into a situation where a handheld meter is a necessity, and they can do just fine with what is built into the camera. But there are circumstances where a handheld meter is not only a very significant improvement in efficiency over what the camera meter does, but it is also irreplaceable in doing things a camera meter simply cannot do. Those who say "you don't need a handheld meter at all" simply don't find themselves in those situations where a camera meter is totally inadequate!

It depends on what subject you shoot & under what conditions? This works for me 99% of the time: Need an exposure crutch? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=89123)
