My H.O.G. ( Harley Owners Group ) is hosting the state rally this year and I have been ask to do the photography, some groups shots and then candids around the event but I can also set up and take Portraits of people and their bikes. I have never done this before so alot of questions.

1. I would like to be able to set up and offer prints on the spot is this realistic?

2. Pricing? I want to keep it resonable to attract the most people but not give it away ether. 5x7's ? 8x10's? are the two sizes that seem the most used.

3.CD's and let them do their own printing? and if so how much a CD and copyright issues on using the prints from them?

4.Using a web site and selling prints from it?

5. Any thing I am not thinking of? I am sure there is a ton of stuff I am missing.

ok I think these are the main ones I can think of now any and all help I can get is greatly appreciated thank you.

Mike...unless you want to invest in extra equipment...
#4 is my choice and the way I do it.

Pop up to my sight and you can get the idea. Feel free to copy my order form.

If you dont already have the equipment to do on site prints (would get expensive fast, but what in photography does not), i would for sure go with setting up a website and handing out business cards with the site on it. There are many threads about who and how to do this

Was in a motorcycle rally a couple of years ago, and when each motorcycle/rider rode up to register they got their picture taken against a provincial/state tourist backdrop. Great idea. Also pictures were taken on our show and shine parade and other times. The trouble was that when people wanted pick the pictures you had to try and find on the computer. A hundred people looking at one computer, three hours to do it and printing off the same computer. Had to browse through all the pictures to find yourself. Most of the people gave up, including myself. If you do not sell them on site immediately, you will likely not sell on the web site. I do event photography and you must sell on site while everyone is in the mood.

Couple of things that come to mind, first I think only option 4 is reasonable if you have done onsite printing before. I would not consider doing it.

The group shots probably won't be difficult to handle online.

The individual shoots will need to be pretty good, different, etc to sell. Unless they are brand new they probably have quite a few snapshots of themselves and their bike, so I think it needs to be pretty good for them to buy. Maybe a large American flag as a backdrop.

Watch out for reflections! They don’t want to see you reflected on the tank or chrome.

For the individual shots think about having an assistant to take down names and log the image number with the names. Make an alphabetical list so the individuals can easily look up their name and get the corresponding image number of themselves.

Them’s my ideas.

The car guys around here are used to getting an 8X10" print at the big meets for $10-$20. I've not heard of anyone doing it for bikes.

Thank you for all your comments and advice I am still leaning towards pictures at the event and then offering them reprints or larger sizes from a web site.
