I like the unusual pose in the second pic and the fact that the tongue is showing in the first. Thank you for viewing.

Nice shots. And yes, I'm hunting for one as well.

Nice shots, Rick. Are you using a blind or anything to get this close? They're usually pretty skittish.

Usually if they are actively feeding on a newly pecked out hole they are so concentrated on feeding that they will allow you to creep up on them. If they do flush while feeding remain patient and wait quietly often they will return in a couple of minutes and resume feeding.

Nice couple of shots. I've never had any trouble just walking up to the tree they are in and taking my shots. They don't seem bothered by me at all. Of course, the only place I've seen them was in a well populated park. The same bird both times, so I guess people don't bother it. :)

Very nice,. so .. when is one of us going to get a good shot of a Pileated and "shop" it to look like an Ivory Bill?

These are nice Rick, but there is no tongue in the first and there is nothing unusual pose-wise in the second... ;)

Nice couple of shots Rick. Dan (Dancad) and I were quite close to a male twice on Saturday morning. He didn't seem bothered at all with us being there.
