Hi,
Whilst browsing other posts, I noticed a link to a user manual via the powershot.com website - I used this to locate the user manual for the S400 in pdf format. Great!
However, my camera is actually the IXUS 400 - but the canon.co.uk website only offer the following:
http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/User_Manuals/index.asp
- where I can purchase a new one.
I still have my original, but would like an electronic version to stick on my laptop to save me carrying the manual around.
So, I just wanted to check: Is there any difference between the S400 and the IXUS400 ???

Sorry, i was being a bit thick here. The pdf document for the S400 was downloading as I posted the original question - after which I realised, I could just compare the S400 pdf to my IXUS400 original manual.
And as the Pdf manual for the S400 also has IXUS 400 on it, I presume this manual will be fine.
How tight are canon.co.uk for not offering what powershot.com do!

Powershot.com is from Canon! this site is dedicated to new releases and user manuals and other canon links

Yes - I know that Powershot is Canon, but in the UK Canon cameras are not labelled as Powershot at all.
Therefore the average UK Canon D.Camera owner would not know what Powershot is - and therefore not think of looking on the Powershot website (as the .co.uk sites do not have any links to the Powershot site).
Most of all I just found it 'harsh' that the .com site link for 'manuals' had a full list of PDF manuals to download, where as the .co.uk 'manuals' only gave details of where to buy the manuals (£££!).
If .co.uk don't want to host a set of PDF manuals, why don't they at least link to the .com site who do.
I previously owned a Canon IXUS V, and a couple of years ago had a look for an electronic manual on canon.co.uk - because they didn't have one, I didn't think to look else where...

That's indeed not nice from Canon UK to charge you for the manuals!
Canon NL does charge you for manuals of Speedlights and lenses, but refer to Powershot.com for Digi manuals.
So it seems that UK is not the only rip off

The IXUS 400 is just the European? name for the S400.
Apparently in japan, europe, and america, the same model has like 3-4 different names.

yes that's right
With a lot of the models there are also Software differences
i was told that for instance the S400 has a lower flash capacity than the Ixus400
a lot of the times the European models are slightly more advanced
like the Eos 5
the Eos 5 has standard eye control and an automatic flash pop up and goes down automatic but the american Eos 5 (A2) has the models A2 and A2E and only the A2E has eye control
also the flash doesn't po up automaticly but you have to push a flash button to pop it up!
