View Full Version : Just curious... Do you carry your camera with you ALL the time?

I know there are lots of pros here that shoot for specific purposes, etc. But this question is for all of you general shooters, i.e, people, places, action, adventure, etc.

For those of you that fit this profile, do you carry your camera EVERYWHERE? I mean, is it either on your neck, or within general reach, or in the car, at all times? Or do you leave it home in the closet until you feel like shooting?

I ask because several times I have said to myself "crap, I dont have the camera". So now i find myself bringing it everywhere - - at least in the car - - so its within a 60 second state of readiness. Just curious. Also, related, do you bring the 'rig' if you answered yes, or just a body and walkaround lens?

There are just two occassion where I carry my camera.
When I know I will need it (i.e. travel, parties, etc) and when I have a new lens or accessories (I like to "bond" with all of them).

I only take mine out when I really feel like shooting, otherwise, it stays at home.

I do however always have my SD500 on me if for any reason I want a quick picture of something I see.

Unless I am going somewhere where the camera is at risk, I usually leave it in my vehicle just in case and I frequently have a small lightweight tripod as well.
I usually have one long lens, one medium and a flash along with spare battery at a minimum in my camera backpack.

Everywhere, every time. It's not hard. It goes from my house to my car, and then depending where I'll be, I'll either take out the big gun, or the P&S, and leave the rest in the car. My car is insured for that stuff so I don't worry about leaving it in the car.

ummmm, well my mother in law asked if I'd had surgery to have it removed when we went out on Sunday, if that's any help. So yes It tends to go with me. I must get a life (I take that back - I enjoy taking photo's) I just wish some were better than they are. It ain't a wysiwyg life. (what i see isn't necessarily what I get)

I've had way too many moments of "damn, I wish I had a camera right now". So, I'm looking for one of those "halfsies" backpacks, with the camera part at the bottom, and a regular backpack on top. That way, I can still carry my stuff for school AND my camera...and I'd only carry camera, one lens, and flash. Now, to find a camera bag that doesn't LOOK like a camera bag.

I'm like SmuckerS2, I usually have my P & S with me at all times that way if some thing come up I can get a shot. I use it if I am checking out a new location and do some trial shots then return with the BIg Gun and get some different shots.

There are only two times when I carry my camera with me.
#1When I need it
#2 When I don't

You never know when something great will pop up.
It was also really nice to have a few weeks ago when some guy at the local car wash decided to back my brand new car back into the car wash with the drivers door still open. He folded the door all the way back against the front fender. DUH! I got the whole thing on my camera!!

Lowepro Orion Trekker is your friend. Looks just like a normal backpack. I have my gripped 350d in it, with either a 50/1.4 (hood reversed) or kit lens on. Whichever of those is not on the camera is also in the pack, along with a CPL, some batteries, cards (in a special pouch built in to the top part), and either a 75-300 or 580EX. If I take both, the 580 goes in its pouch in the main part of the pack.

I usually take my camera when I'm going out with the family.

I'd say I carry at least one camera with me 95% of the time.
Never know what might happen.

Unless I'm traveling, (which is most of the time) the camera stays home.
