Has anyone had the following problem: 10D, 70-200IS, 200ISO
Subject 7 10 15 feet from the lens, sunny day, WB set for sun.
When shooting various nature shots using auto focus the picture looks in focus at the time of the shot. When I process the RAW images in the computer and zoom in on the focus point, the photo appears out of focus. The image is not sharp. I shot some test pictures and the same happened. This situation has just started after 9,000 pictures previously shot. Has anyone had such a situation happen? Is it possible to wear out a 10D? Any suggestions?

Can you post some examples? Failing that in Canon FVU, you can crank up the sharpness and then make it a TIFF and play around with it in PSE 2.0 or whatever image editing software. It is hard to say what is up. Generally I have found the RAW pics look like a pre negative and that isn't a problem, they just leave it to you to sort it.
Here is an example straight out of camera before tweeking:

After tweeking:

Be sure to click on full size to see it all. You will see the difference!

Is it just me or are there aliasing errors on the bottom of the wing and on the tail in both shots? If so, is there a way to clean them up in PS or with some other software?

You know what I will ask a few more experienced people. I really don't know.

I didn't see anything unusual on the full images, though the "reduced" images are quite jagged.

Size is 1600x732, down from 3072x2048. It was a RAW pic to start.

Actually, I was referring to the tiny "500" images - its easy to forget to click on them to get the full intended image. I've done it a few times myself.

Tom W,
LOL! Did you see the problem aforementioned?

No, I didn't see any problem, though it may be something that wouldn't be noticed by me. I was trying to gently mention that somebody may have forgotten to click on the image, but I didn't want to ruffle any feathers (I do that often enough). ;)

I don't even remember to click on my own images sometimes.

Ok, that's cool, maybe someone else might see it. No worries.

Hi,

After shooting around 18K pictures on my 10 D I noticed that I got increasingly badly focused shots (grammar  ) I sent the camera back into Canon and they tweaked the focus and it is pin sharp again. I do not know how many shots most folks are putting through their 10D's but I certainly plan to have mine serviced every 7k or so.

Cheers

J
