Only because the left side of the image is too dark I think.
I would like to see his right eye to balance the shot and the left side of the face curves through the middle of the composition. Try 2/3 face in the frame or 1/3 of the left side only.

Too harsh. You cannot see his right eye. It's solid black.

I like a stark hard portrait every now and then. I feel a little to close and that the skin is a bit to oily looking. Also, the light is very hot on the cheek and the eye is blown out. Work on reigning that back in and you will have a better image.

Its good, don't get me wrong. But I know what you are capable of and its weak for you. Almost like a half hearted attempt. If something does not feel right , then ditch it.

I think if the light had been toned down just a tad, it would be awesome.
I like the black shadow, but not the blown out highlights and the oversharpened look of the bright details.

Very good shot IMO. I'd like to see only half the guys face because of the direct light. I think you are on the right track just a little more.
