In the Times Square station. These guys were doing something that seemed like a combination of moon-walking, dancing, and breakdancing. Quite entertaining, anyway.

Nice captures. Maybe a slower shutter speed to show the motion.

these are pretty good shots, though i would have liked to have seen more like the last. pov, from the crowd, or from a performer's back into the crowd. the last one just accentuates the environment more, as someone's previously mentioned making one feel the hustle, the bustle, and the music. its a street shot, and the appeal i find with most great street photos, is the delivering sense of being there.

reminds me of the late 80's....lol man every where you looked someone was break dancing!!!
Good job, i guess then, you made them look better than they were... excellent!!

The last one, is the only one here that gives a feel/sense of what your words say. More like that would be better.

Nice shots!
These guys look like they're stuck in the 80's!
Sorta like 80's rejects lol
Aren't they kind of old to still be TRYING to break dance?
Well I guess everyone has to "get their hustle on"! :D
Hope they get rich!

Great shots! Actually this group is licensed to perform in the subways. I find these performers very beneficial to NYC's riding public - they entertain and keep the spirits of the commuters up, breaking up the monotony of a dull commute. If you want to see battling breakdancers, go to Union Square in the late afternoon, mostly on Fridays.

A group of kids got on the A/C train the other day and started break dancing. Really tight space but they were tearing it up. I was impressed. Had I been closer to them, I'd probably have tipped 'em.
Beats the hell out of candy salesmen, at least.
Nice shots.

Nice shots.
Whilst i was there, people would sing on the Subway trains whilst moving and then ask for money - is that the norm?

yea Dan, that's the norm. You'll have the following...
1 - The break dancing kids, one older, one younger. They'll have a boombox and go through a familiar routine.
2 - The angry homeless man/woman who hates the world but will continue to beg for money.
3 - The homeless with a body part missing.
There used to be this pregnant lady who I used to see for a constant 2 years. I guess she had a lot of babies. I don't want to judge.
4 - There's this one black guy who has an electronic guitar and amp who will sing oldies tunes and make everyone guess. He makes me laugh everytime and if you can pull it off, he'll give you 5 bucks because he'll say "5 dollars to the first person to name this tune..." may be obvious but it's a trick question.
5 - Union Square, 4/5 train uptown side always has one of the following. Chinese guy with that 2 stringed instrument, the carribean guy with those metal drums (I don't know what they're called, I'm sorry), or the guy with the plastic buckets as drums. Where you go down to the N/R/Q/W (wAHTEVER, I can't remember anymore) there is usually a sanctioned NYC underground mucisian playing.
6 - On the 2 train going uptown you may catch people selling batteries or super glue for 1 dollar a pack. Once in awhile late night you may see 2 guys in religious garb selling incense and black soap. The chinese people selling the batteries and toys also sell bootleg DVD's for 5 dollars. Back in the 90's they used to sell toys, candy and gum but they don't sell the edible stuff anymore
7 - the edible stuff usually come from the teenagers selling candy. They used to say they were selling to support their basketball team. All of them. Now it's usually 'I'm just an average guy trying to make some money and staying off the street' which also seems to work.
8 - The worst are the guys who come on to preach. No one likes them, not even the people trying to read their bible in peace. By the time you get off your stop, you're condemned to hell as a sinner for not proclaiming Jesus as your savior. Don't bother arguing, you get no where. trust me on this one.
9 - Once in awhile you'll also get these guys who play the drums. Carribeans and they'll have foldable seats with them. They have some nice beats.
10 - I used to see these Mexicans who come on to play the guitar.
11 - Oh, can't forget the guys who ask for donations and food to support the homeless. The money goes into a long canister whose previous occupation used to be to hold chips for the company whose slogan is "Once you pop, you can't stop" :P
All pretty common experiences if you ride the trains. :)
