A70 problem - inoperative "shutter release"

I bought my A70 in the US a year ago & look after it well. However, the "shutter release" button suddenly does not respond to pressing & so I cannot take any photos. Does anyone know of the problem & what its cause and solution may be?

Is the button difficult to push, or gritty feeling as it moves a little? This could be dirt or dried liquid inside the shutter release button. You would need to disassemble and clean/replace the button. (If done incorrectly this could further damage the camera.)

It otherwise could be a contract, wire, chip, trace or anything else inside that would require a qualified technician to track down and repair...

Before taking off the covers or sending it in, reset the camera to factory defaults, ensure charged batteries, working memory card installed, camera set to record mode... Don't assume anything, as sometimes the reason something isn't working is power or setting related...

A good friend of mine has an A70 that had the lens barrel damaged and he doesn't want to pay Canon to fix the camera since its out of warranty.

If you're interested, I can ask him if he would sell just the shutter release/zoom button to you. It would help him recoup his losses to buy another camera, and you'd get a new working button for your camera.

I've had the A60 and A70 apart before, and replacing that button is extremely simple. There are two short screws in the bottom of the battery compartment, and one long screw near the topside of the CF compartment that hold the button assembly in place. The button simply plugs/unplugs for the electrical connection.

Obviously, I get nothing out of this, but I like to help out fellow Canon users. Maybe one day somebody will help me out with the part I need if I break my own camera.

I might be putting my wifes A70 (in full working condition with original box and accessories) up for sale in the Marketplace soon though.
