Ok, so another 2nd grade question.
Somebody has a 70-200L lens on a 30D, he takes a shot at 160mm, first off, what is the "L" designating on the lens and what is 160mm refer to in his shot?

Thanks and forgive me, I am still learning.

160mm = the focal length used.

"L" = Canon's Professional Series lenses.

L is the classification given to canon lenses that are "professional" quality. It is basically higher quality glass that produces sharper and higher contrast images. Most L lenses have very fast ring USM focusing motors. The 160mm is the focal length...there is a good explanation here: http://www.usa.canon.com/app/html/EFLenses101/focal_length.html

Have a look at The Digital Picture (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews) for a good general education on Canon lenses - but be warned, it will give you a raging case of L-fever!
