I have two Sigma Super DG 500 flashes to go with my D60 and I'm trying to set up a 3:1 ratio for portraits. If you ever read the manual that comes with the flash you are sure to know how horrible it is.
Can someone out there give me direction on how to setup for master to control the slave flash using the master from a distance please? Or, am I better off setting both the on camera flash and off camera flash to purely manual settings and giving up the idea of master and slave (thus calling them on camera and off camera)? I'm almost thinking that I will have to setup the on camera flash as my fill flash (which is the way I want it). Instead of changing the slave flash settings via the master flash (on camera flash), I will have to physically walk over to the off camera flash and change it's settings.

If you are an expert on the Sigma DG Super please let me know because the instruction manual is way to confusing. I surely need a contact person who can help me out with this darn flash.

Thank you,
Cordell

How are you trying to couple the flash units to the camera?

(1) Canon wireless system
(2) optically using the flash
(3) plain sync cable
(4) Canon cable with sync and data

Canon wireless. The wireless works, I just can't get the swing of controlling the ratio from the master if it's actually possible. Can this be done using two Canon 550EX flashes?

I _think_ that you have to manually calculate the A:B ratio and manually set it.

I have the STE2 transmitter that talks to my 550EX and 420EX flash units, and the STE2 has the A:B ratio control right on it.

I would agree with Bob that with anything other than 550 or 420's you have to set the ratio by hand for i.e all in manual. Set up the first to give a correct exposure and then reduce the power on the second flash by two stops. Its very hit and miss without a flash meter.

I agree with you both. The Sigma actually does everything the 550 can do, it's just understanding the stupid instruction manual.
