Does anybody here use the 70 - 200 f2.8 lense and has the Sigma 2xTC? I would like to know what kind of quality you get out of that and also if it works with any canon lenses. Posted pics would be appreciated.

I've been using my 70-200 2,8 IS with a sigma x1,4 TC for 1 year and a half without problem. Next week, I'm ordering canon's 2x TC.
Quality is quite good but I'm unable to compare with canon's equivalent.
I use that setup very rarely, but it works...

Hope this helps,

I have the Sigma 70-200 2.8 lens and the 2x Sigma converter. These are a couple of shots that I took with this combination. Keep in mind it was my first time out using this combination, hand held from about 70 yards away, getting close to dusk. I am also able to use this converter on my Canon 300mm 4.0L in manual focus.

Here is a recent photo taken with the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and the 2x teleconverter. (by the way, he was safe.... he slid under the tag and touched the plate before the tag).

I was standing about 100 feet away.... and I had to crop the shot as I didn't have time to zoom in for the shot.

You would have the equivalent of a (200 x 2 x 1.6) 640mm lens!. :D ..still with a decent amount of light. :D

I have a 300D and I am really considering buying the Sigma 70-200 2.8 versus the Canon because of the cost factor. I am going to Alaska soon and plan on shoot thousands of pictures. Have you had any trouble with the sigma and compatibility?

Thanks,
Jerry

Hey Jerry,

I don't have the Rebel, but a friend of mine does. He's used my lens with no trouble at all.

On my 10D the only thing that's kinda funky is the EXIF. Ever since I updated the firmware... if I zoom to 200mm, it ends up reading something like focal length = 456mm, which is not a true reading.
Even with that, it still produces great photos, so it doesn't concern me.

Just wanted to make a mention of this in case anyone saw that in their EXIF... it's nothing to freak out about.

No Troubles at all. Beautifully sharp pictures and very good control over DOF. with a minimum aperture of 32 :) Don't forget to post some pics of alaska. Make sure you have a tripod and a monopod.. :) Its a heavy one.
