I was digging through some photos, from my trip to Italy last year, when I found this one.
I shot it in Jpeg, it was all skew & needed some cropping.
I desaturated it > added a diffuse glow > applied a sepia flter > and added the border.

looks like a nice photo, but i feel it's too dark - the border (white glow) stands out more than the content of the image. all of the sepia tones are 50% and below.

I really like the image and the processing you've done but it is too dark, there is no contrast. It looks old but there are those new types of space heaters visible taking away from that look & feel. For it having been skewed so bad it looks relatively straight to me.

Dont worry I won't correct this one and have the same little fiasco we did last time

Still your images evoke feeling, besides the darkness I like it :D

i feel it's too dark

it is too dark

Probably because I'm working with my laptop.
I'm never fully sure how bright / dark my images appear to everyone else. :(

One thing I did to nip this type of problem in the bud is I calibrated all the monitors I use at work and home to the same. I got really sick of seeing an awesome end result at work ,getting home to view it and it sucked. Laptops screens can be tricky

I like it and I like it just as it is - "too dark". In fact, I *might* even be tempted to darken some of the highlights a bit.

I don't know how many here did film, those who did would remember one of the least complex (but hard to get right) and most dramatic effects that could be done in the darkroom was called "solarization".

As the print was in the developing solution, about half way being done, you would turn on the white lights for a couple seconds. The AgHalide Crystals that were allready activated (densities from light grey to black) would not be affected. Those crystals without a latent image, would turn black in the presence of the white light. Not exatly a negative image and clearly not a postive.

Almost by definition, leaving the dark densities alone, and turning the light densities dark, you end up with a dark image. I like this shot a lot even thought it is "too dark". I might tone down the highlight to <50% density, to more accurately simulate solarization.

Also, I think that the subject matter lends itself to this treatment. Other than the propane heaters (can those be cloned out?), it looks like an old print that had been hanging for years. They are hard to find now, because so many were thrown away, but a lot of old prints naturally solarized over time. Inadiquate stopping and fixing would cause a print to be succeptable to naturally changing over years in the presence of light.

This looks like one of those.

Well done, you should be proud.

Okay...

After much effort, I have lightened it, added some contrast, used a sepia border and removed the propane heaters. 8)

Your thoughts? :D

How much would it cost for an 11" X 14" framed and shipped?

Garethhhhh you do such exquisite work :o , I can't see any remnants of the heaters at all. You have done lightening on a dark image and kept it dark, wonderful job!

Do you sell any of your work?

Thanks Ion!

No I don't sell my prints, this is only my third attempt at sepia.

As I said this was a crop of a jpeg image. It probably wouldn't print out very nice anyway because I cropped such a lot out.
I think Photoshop should take most of the credit...

this is the origional:

Wow! It sure did come a long way, you fixed it up quite nicely :D

You have taken a moment and made it your own though Photoshop will work wonders it always depends on the user, Good Show. 8)
