Finally decided on the Manfrotto 055 after much research and picked one up on eBay for a decent price. Very impressed with the Carbon Fibre build and well made, light, strong and looks good.
However, I seem to be having a weeping problem with it that is actually starting to scare me  I know this sounds weird, but if the tripod is erected then all is fine, but if I let it down and put it in the bag then within a few minutes it seems to leak from around the head area.
I didn't worry first time, but then I have done it several times over the last few days and same happens. I smelt the liquid and nothing, but it has a slight salty taste to it. Do you think the tripod is actually upset about something? Is that possible?

Damn ... I just opened pouch of my 24-105mm IS L and that is damp inside too and again has a salty taste  I think my place might be haunted!! Is that possible? Anyone ever experienced this kind of Poltergeist activity before?

Have you been going from cold air to warm humid places?

You bought a girlie-tripod! A weepy devotchka. :D
(could be the previous owner dunked it in the drink - or the head's hosed if it's one of those "fluid-filled panning heads")

Yeah, I thought that and because it was a weird mystery that started to bother me I rang the seller and she said she'd hardly used it (which looks true) and never near water. The head is my own 488 which used to be fine. The weeping is from the head area where it meets the tripod. THAT is why it is so weird. AND why would a similar thing happen to the 24-105mm IS L?

Can't offer any advice Dave (except leave the flat!), but I've just checked my 24-105 and 488RC2 and they are bone dry... and no salty taste!
It's gone mid-day so I'm assuming this is not an April Fools joke...;)
I'll be watching this thread will great interest

I dunno lads ... the woman I spoke to on the phone had a kinda otherworldly voice and I didn't want to speak to her too much. The whole experience has given me the willies :-(
I am staying with friends tonight. The flat has a weird smell now. All this since I bought the Manfrotto. Do you think she sold it because it is possessed? It's a carbon fibre model.

You see Dave, that's what happens when you buy non-Canon merchandise. It makes your L glass cry.

Have you been using any mind altering substances lately?
Assuming lack of april fools, maybe someone was shooting in water before you got the pod?

Yeah ... when transatlantic words clash y'all better watch it innit mate?
Funny thing is despite my ghostly tripod orientated experience - was it real or my imagination ... sometimes I'm not sure :-) - I seriously checked-out the Manfrotto 055 CF today and wow is it plasticky or what. £250 ... man, my ex Dynatran and Feisol was better built!! The Gitzo I saw was decent tho' but not really any better.

I prefer the aluminium Manfrotto 'pods to the CF ones. Admittedly I couldn't afford the CF legs anyway, but their weight is a double edged sword.
