Some shots from the Luke Days 2007 Airshow. What do you think?

These were shot with a 70-200 2.8 IS with 2x TC mostly zoomed all the way out. I wasn't too happy with this combination as a lot of shots were too soft for my taste even open at f/8.

Aha. Someone else who was there! My thread of pics from Luke Days is below. I shot with a Canon S3 IS/lensmate adapter/UV filter/Sun hood.

I'm still a complete novice and just trying the best I can. I think I got some good shots though. Any chance of you posting up more?

Did you get sunburnt as bad as I did? The only thing that would have made my legs any better was butter and herbs... I was cooked at the end of the day.

I didn't get sunburnt at all. I did use a little sunscreen though.

Well it seems that Sunday you had much better conditions. Saturday was completely overcast till the Thunderbirds flew.

There's something interesting about one of the aircraft in the first shot... Anyone notice what it is?

The "5" printed on the intake is right-side-up on the upside-down plane. Also the upside-down plane is nearer to the camera.

I was there also on Sunday. Here are my pictures, not to great. I am still trying to learn and I was having problems with my telephoto lens trying to focus on the planes flying. I took some in RAW and some in the "action" settings.

Any input is welcome.

Maybe it is right side up on the other side? Will have to look next year to see.

Bingo!

Do you know the reason?

Do you know the reason?

Because the Lead Solo flies like that. The number is inverted on both sides of the aircraft.

Ok I am officially depressed now. Your pics with the 2x TC on a 70-200mm f/2.8IS are light years better than mine. In fact they almost rival RCoulter's 100-400mm. What did I do wrong? f/6.3 1/1600 ISO 200.

Well, it just appears underexposed. It's funny though because as I see it yours had only 1/3 less stop of exposure.

Mine was ISO 200 f/7.1 at 1/1000. Your aperture is 1/3 stop greater, shutter 2/3 stops less and ISO the same for a net 1/3 less. Don't know why so much noise would be present. Maybe someone knows more than me.

I'm still processing images from this show...

I was just looking at the Thunderbirds new website and they take this inverted "5" thing even further. All references to Major Ed Casey on the site show his number in the inverted position. The number is even embroidered upside down on his flight suit.
