After considering its 17-35 zoom, I finally sprung for the Sigma 15-30 and initially have been quite happy with it on my D-30--shooting both in fog and in bright sunlight. Sharpness all around at 15mm. A question, though, that even Sigma couldn't answer: Will this lens operate without vignetting at 15mm with an 82mm filter (polarizer or other)? My camera store doesn't stock 82mm filters, so I can't "take it into the store and see if it works." If it does work, does it have to be a thin filter? I sure as heck don't want to invest in ANY 82mm filter (and they are an investment) only to discover it doesn't work.

I think you are alright on D30-D60 1.6x magnification on most filters. Even if a slim polariser vignets it isn't going to be by much. Try and get hold of a scrap 82mm, even just the ring, fit it and see. Or wrap a piece of black card inside the lens hood so it protrudes the same amount as the filter would. shoot a plain image and see. Hope this helps . David
