Crop from top and bottom would make it look great IMO!

Shame they are not facing the camera, but I appreciate We cannot always be in the right place at the right time! heavy cropping as last poster suggested.

Hi,

how did you manage to get what would seem to be a long exposure, without too much motion blur?
are you using an SLR?
do SLR's have wider aperture settings meaing they can take in light faster?
sorry if im not making sense, im a beginner.

oh, nice shot too, by the way! I quite like the way they face away from the camera, but i do agree that the crop would improve things.

Shame they are not facing the camera,...
Eliminates the need for model releases for every player...

I am not sure where I stand on the crop issue. Having worked in a hockey rink from 1977 to about 1983, and played my share of pickup games, I like to see the whole rink. I think that I like the whole image as is. IF you were going to crop, the only thing that would work would be a panographic frame.

Also, I like the "backtage view" as presented. I think that there is a much better feel of "entering into battle" than if you had shot it from the front. Front view would be hockey players, this is a hockey team. Entirely different feel, and one that I like better.

If I were to do anything, I might rotate just a tad counterclockwise (.5 degree or less), I dont know if it actually is tilted, but is seems as though it is. Also, I would play with the perspective and skew tools, streaching the 2 sides to make the players appear equal sized. (Especially if you choose to go with the pano framing.)

I like it.

Oh, and molly, SLRs themselves dont have a wider aperture. The aperture is in the lens. The larger the better. Me, I use an "Image Stablizing" lens, that has a special element in it that (magically) knows when you are shaking the camera, and compensates for it.

This one I hand held at 0.7 seconds.

The reason the I did not crop the picture was that we put the tournament logo and wording on the bottom. As for taking it from the front then you would not have the American flag in the picture. The parents of the tournament like these pictures becasue I sold alot of 20x30 posters of this type of shot. I was just sharing the idea with others.

From a strickly photographic standpoint, I would crop the top to eliminate the speakers and I would crop out "the suits" to the left.

But if what you got is what sells, sell it.
