Thanks for the feedback Dave... I picked out the best ones from a few hundred shots... The drummer is a trim, out of a much wider picture... Was lucky with the lighting on this one...:D

Some potentially good subject pictures, were turning out noisy after I removed the red light colors off them... Here is a stage shot with the red lights...(It's also my only full stage pic.)

Nice shots John and educational too!! I had no idea the original lead singer left the band. I remember Jaime singing for a band called "Black@ Blue" back in the day. Man, I need to live near Penn's Peak :)

Here is a real sharp pic of Jamie...He really exhibits strong stage presence, and is a great asset to the band...:D

I like #2 and 3 best. #7 has too much NR from the look of it.

Nice set, John ... maybe back off ISO1600 as you surely don't need 1/1000th ... or shoot f/3.5 rather than f/2.8.

I'm glad you like these two.. cause I had a tough time picking Erik's pic from many other red light ones... Joey's pic was easy to select...there is one more of him really leaning back and rockin'...but this one has a more face...

Here is Jerry's pic right out of camera. no trim, no sharpening, no color adjustments or noise reduction...no post processing at all... Let's see if the difference is noticable... (I haven't compared them side by side yet..) :D

John dude, was writing down the ones i liked best, and i was basically putting down every image, this set is great, great colors and subjects are really nice and clear even tho i like the second i feel it could be cropped a bit? but awsome set.

Dwight silly question but are you saying a slower setting would of been better or worse?
Cheers for posting a great set dude.

Got it Dwight...Thanks for the feedback...I must remember to set the ISO lower, when the lighting is good... I'd rather do that, than constantly fumble with the shutter speed and aperture as I am always doing...

If you notice the stage shot...It's all red and white lights dancing all around... When the subject is in white light, the pics are easier to get and selecting and post processing them is no problem... When the red light hits the performers, it's all up in the air...

The funny thing is, It's not easy to distinguish the red light on stage during the performance... However, the camera picks it right up... :D :D

Thanks for the feedback James... Most of these were taken in JPG cause I was low on memory to continue shooting RAW... I picked these out of more than a couple of hundred JPG shots.

The good new is, pic #2 is almost right out of camera... and the best part is that, I saw the dark blue lighting and the strong golden reflection... it was occurring off the guitar, and I took several pictures... This lighting combination only lasted a half a minute, so there was no time to change any settings... there are shadows of people's heads visible in the lower right... I let them in front of me cause they were shorter... but then the guitarist stepped right in front of them...;)

I'm saying that 1/250th is usually plenty and that would allow him come off ISO1600 and/or f/2.8 to f/3.5 or so. He was at like 1/1000th.

Thanks for the feedback Dwight...
I'll try the camera setting at 1/250th and ISO 1250 or just ISO 1000 and let the camera adjust the aperture... It's certainly a viable option... It's easier to run with some automatic settings when on the fly...

I'm real glad to have finally gotten these pics out James...
Almost everything I get out of camera requires trimming and stage light adjustment... occasionally I get a couple out of camera shots that are good on their own...

Some of my very best results this year (3 pics so far) are straight out of camera with no adjustments at all...

hey John, definitely seeing improvement here as compared to 2-4 months ago, nice work. 2, 3, 5 and 6 are my tops, esp 2...i like the understated light the guitarist is in, relative to his guitar.

Nice set John. Looking good!

Thanks for the feedback Basil... I'm learning through repetition while post processing... It also gives me some insight into settings, framing and composition while capturing the initial pics.

Must be make up then

Yeah, that very well could be... ( I know (in my younger years), I got over an hour of make up daily, to look "good" in stage lights)...
These guys are from Los Angeles, I'd expect them to be inclined to theater costumes, and make up... ;)

However, your observation is correct... I did use some Noise Ninja in the first posting ...

I checked them out narlus...I'd know some of their music to hear it... I know I heard of them, cause I was in California for 5 yrs. during the early/mid 80's and early 90's... It just goes to show... I was mostly out in the Sierra's where country music is more popular, and in LA it was "big band" sounds that ruled around the Universal City neighborhood, where I hung out...

The lighting was actually better then the first two shows of the day...
Glass filter was on... cause the kids I let in front of me had long hair, and almost grimed up my glass filters...:D

Nice try Dwight... We're in the same boat on this one... My music tastes are very eclectic... I can recognize the songs but not necessarily the artists... Keeping it real easy and simple is usually my style ...

Way to go narlus... I'll second that... listening to rock will be mandatory "x" amount of hours per week...:D

Your USC cheerleaders didn't come up...all's I get is a red X...

Black Flag certainly is typical of todays band cohesiveness...it certainly looks like they all change players often...

Nice stuff John,

As we discussed in the last thread start watching your shutter speed in your view finder. When you see it getting up there adjust your f/stop or ISO. You should be getting to the point where you can almost do this with out even thinking about it. You will only see your stuff get better as less noise or a less open aperture will result in sharper images.

I will be fortunate to have Dwight in my neck of the woods in a few weeks, we will spend several days together. He is going to get a full dose of Texas music.

I actually booked a very well known artist to do a Tuesday night show so Dwight could check him out.

Dwight will make it back to the left coast loving Texas music.;)

I'll keep trying to stay right with the lights, though they change instantly, with out rhyme or reason... It's the ISO that I haven't been changing much... the aperture will also need more adjustment... I managed to get it up to f/4.0 a few times...will give it all a try next time...

I think there is a little more country music playing on the radio in TX than in CA...

Maybe you guys would like the bronze horses of Las Colinas, there over by the Cowboys football stadium... Have fun entertaining Chris...

For you, here's a hankey... hope all's a lot better now...:D
He resembles my ol bud, Chipper, an New Englander... got himself a MS Ed and took his new wife to teach in Australia for a few years...

Chris got me real curious, who the performer will be... Watch Dwight return with a cowboy hat and another pair of exotic skin cowboy boots...
