First off- yes i did do a search, but nothing answered my exact question.

Is there a difference in storing picks on a DVD vs. storing on a CD? I am assuming that most people use whatever format they have a burner for. I recently got a new computer and it has a CD/ DVD burner. I am aware that CD-R last upwards of 100 years, whereas CD-RW last about 30 years. However i dont know if there is a diffence in the time from DVD to CD. What do people recomend?

Thanks for your help in advance :P :P :P

Here's a good generalized FAQ about CD-R media:

What exactly do you mean "time from DVD to CD"?

If you mean data rate, DVD-R's in their current 4X and 8X versions burn more data than CD-R's BUT, since it's a larger data capacity medium, will take longer to burn entire DVD-R media disk.

Opps. I meant how long are the images kept on the media before it starts to deteriorate

I burn both of them. I first burn my backups to CD-R. I also keep a copy on disk. When I get enough copies on disk to fill a DVD-R, I will then burn that to DVD-R.

Why? I have read that a lot of people do this. Is this because DVD is better or is it just simply it holds more. I tend to over think things. This might be one of those times.

Why not just go from PC directly to the DVD?
