Hi everyone!

Once again, I need some advice for getting new lenses. My camera and lenses were stolen on a recent trip >:( and I am now waiting for my insurance to give me some money back :D. I am not sure how much I will get, but I am already thinking about buying new gear.

As I am going to South Africa this summer for work and will have a chance to go back to Kruger National Park, I am planning to get a long telephoto. I also loved my 50/1.4 so I am hoping to replace it or get something with a wide aperture.

So, I am getting a 400D and I am considering the following lens options:
- kit+ 70-300 IS USM + 50 f/1.4
- Tammy 17-50 f/2.8 + 70-300 IS USM
- 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM

Other suggestions are also most welcome!

Thanks for your help,
Sebastien

Thanks for the advices. The 70-200 f/4.0 L certainly is a new contender. I have searched thread comparing the 70-300 IS USM and the 70-200 f/4.0 L and it seems difficult to choose between the 2.

So here is my new list of possible combinations to go with a 400D:
- kit+ 70-300 IS USM + 50 f/1.4
- Tammy 17-50 f/2.8 + 70-300 IS USM
- Tammy 17-50 f/2.8 + 70-200 f/4.0 L
- 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM

For now I would go for options 2 or 3. I know the 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM is a great lens, but I feel I need more range for the money and therefore I think I will get the Tammy (as multi-purpose lens for portraits, outdoors, etc.) + a long telephoto (for a trip to South Africa and outdoor shots in general). I will get the 50 f/1.4 later.

Any suggestion? Which option should I choose?
