If you have seen me post on here before chances are it wasnt in the portrait section. My work has mostly been action sports and outdoors with natural light. I have a calumet 750 travelite kit and will be setting up a indoor studio (in spare bedroom) for a photoshoot this thursday. I am going to be working with a scantily clad female for photoshoot for an import car company.

I know I saw an thread before that had a whole bunch of tips for lighting makeup etc.

I have done portraits before, I am just a little nervous that I might forget something or be distracted by the 1/2 model.

Any advice?

I wouldn't call what you're doing portraiture... You should be seeking the knowledge of the great guys at the G/N board... it sounds more like you're doing more of a Glamour type shoot.

I agree but I couldnt post in that section I gues you have to have permission. If a moderator could merge my topic into that section I would appreciate it.

Nice thanks!
Any suggestions for backgrounds? I want a seamless white background but I called around and no photo shops have them within an hours drive. If I went to a fabric store could I just get some white fabric? Would that work?

of course that would work....just make sure and iron or steam so as to get rid of any wrinkles (most distracting) and keep us informed on how it goes.

I will show you guys/gals the photos but yesterday I actually skeched some plans went to the Home Depot and purchased some pvc. I went to a fabric store and got 15yards of white cloth. It took me roughly 40 minutes to gather supplies and another 40 to measure cut and construct a really nice backdrop and stand.

Everything cost under $120 (us Dollars)

I made a big enough setup and have enough material to ultimately get the shot I want, of the model in front of a car with a white background. The sheet was really wrinkled but you can barely see it. For the actual photo shoot I will have ironed out the cloth. Thanks for the comments!

Since you don't usually do portraits, I would grab a family member or friend, and practise tons of poses (and to make sure of your lighting). And look up poses in the Glamor section, and on photographer's websites. Posing is hard, in the moment.

I agree, I have been sketching all morning. I am also trying to create the layout for the ad so I can pose the model to work with the design and just "drop" her image into my final product.

Is there "the best" type of material you could buy for white? What did you buy? Thanks

I looked on all my favorite photo websites to see what the most expensive drops were made of. It looks like most were made of Muslin. I got Bleached white perma press muslin. 15 yards of it that is 108'' wide. I paid about 80 for what I got $4.99 per yard. I will have enough that i can have a few backdrops for the studio or one huge one for doing automotive photography.

Haha, me, give tips! Thanks for the compliment.

Best Tip:
If you have 2 ears and one mouth you should listen twice as much as you speak.
