What do you normally put on CD's when sending images out?

When sending CD's to models after a TFCD shoot I tend to put a high res and low res version of each shot in jpeg format, but I was wondering if anyone puts anything else on the CD?

I was thinking that I should probably put a text file or something with copyright info and usage guidelines etc to cover myself further, but I wanted to know if this is necessary?

text file or something with copyright info and usage guidelines etc to cover myself further, It's not a bad idea.

Keep in mind that one thing you can't cover yourself for, if you sell a Cd of images for them to make crappy prints at the corner drugstore, not only will you lose the sales, but those will be your crappy prints that will be shown to their friends? ;)

in which case, what terms and conditions should I include?

Jay - If this is regarding your other post, just put the release on without restrictions and that way you have done everything to comply with her demands. This way you have it all behind you and can get on with your life.

I include a pdf of the agreed to terms and conditions and a scan of the model release. Alot of places will not print professional looking images so if I have no issues with them printing their own I put in another pdf with a statement from me giving permission for them to do this.

You can try and force them into coming back to you buy prints but in reality this isn't going to happen. TFP/TFCD is a system that should be a win win for both sides. They have to have something usable as do you. A smart model will make sure that they get the high res images in case the photographer drops from the face of the earth. The photographer will make sure that they put enough safeguards in that they don't get screwed either.

I make a printed label that goes on the CD that has terms and conditions in a condensed version and referring them to the documents on the CD. This is done for any product that I deliver and not only traded work. I don't do alot of the trade work anymore but did a couple of years ago when I was trying to re-establish myself in this market. If you get the right model it will drive some additional work. However, modeling is a very tough cut throat industry as well and alot of times this CD just ends up collecting dust in someone's home.

I supply them versions of both watermarked and clean images. I also supply them with a sample file of my logo and how I want credits to appear.

That looks good, & doesn't allow them any wiggle-room.

Thats always my biggest fear, when people ask for a CD. I wonder if a person should take one image and have it printed at various photo finishers, just to show people what a difference it can make??

This is in general. My other post has got a letter going with it written by a lawyer along with a copy of the signed model release form.

I was just curious as I was making the CD for her about what other people put on CD's. Whether they just put the images on or they put other things.

I like the idea of putting the logo on the CD.

Luckily, so far the ones I've given CD's to are all Costco members.

I don't really like to give out CDs but if that's the deal and the images are paid for by the client I size them for printing in the size they purchased. I am also going to start asking if they would like them optimized for our local Costco since most of my clients seem to use the same store for printing.

I include full and web sized images for TFCD shoots. Also include a Word or PDF document on it with the copyright information. I also always use a printer which prints onto printable CD's and make the whole front of it into a professional looking finished item. Includes details, my name, the web address and logo and most importantly the big C logo for copyright.

That would prompt anyone around here to question the legalities of printing the work enough to check for a clearance. I may start adding guidelines for how I want my name credited to the shots though, that's a good idea.
