I have a Sigma 1.4 ex converter and was wondering if the Canon 1.4 would give better quality results.
I would hope it would given the rather massive price difference.
Anyone have or had both.

I've always wondered myself.
I've never seen a comparison either.

I saw a comparison between Canon, Nikon, and Sigma and the Sigma came out on top.
Was a long time ago though and I can't find it now.

Sigma EX is their pro-quality marque - so I imagine the results would be very similar, probably too close to call.
Bear in mind that the Sigma extenders work on the same limited range of lens types that the Canon ones do. check the various stickies for an exhaustive list of compatible lenses.

Well I will say I love my 1.4 EX DG. It works very well with my 70~200mm f2.8 and it also works on my TS-Es. I haven't done any IQ tests on the TS-Es yet, but on the 70-200mm it's usable wide open if you must, and VERY usable/unnoticeable stopped down one stop. The 2.0 is noticeable even 2 stops down, so when trying to shoot anything "fast" it's not a great solution as you're either showing a hit to the IQ or bumping your ISO to the same effect.
I have sample shots with mine here:

It depends on which TC on which lens. A matching game. My Tamron 2x SP is just a little better IQ than my Canon 2x II on the 300/2.8, for example. On my 300/4 up close and wide open the CAnon 1.4x is best but the Tamron SP 1.4x wins at f/11. SIgma finished 3rd. Realize they are all just about the same, I'm being very picky. Biggest difference I find is compatability: what fits what. Stcking is another things as well.

Those are my thoughts too, Canon for Canon and Sigma for Sigma.
I was using the EX on a 100-300f4 and found it very good.
I have now sold that and have a 100-400is so wanted to try both on it.
I will have to find someone with the canon 1.4 converter to try it I suppose.

On my Sigmonster, my Sigma 1.4x (non-DG) is a bit sharper than my Canon 1.4x II, while my Canon 2x II outperfroms my Sigma 2x (non-DG) by a hair.
Here's a shootout among my Canon, Sigma and Tamron 1.4x/2x TC sets:

Thank's Romy, that's very interesting.
