I am quite new to photography with an SLR. I have purchased a Canon zoom lens EF 28-105mm 1:3.5-4.5 usm.
The paper that came with it says it can be used in the macro mode. In fact there is a small window o it with macro settings through to infinity.
I am having a great deal of trouble to get a good macro picture can anyone help me with a few tips on its use?

This isnt a true macro lens, and so you cant actually go in as close as you might think which may be giving you OOF images

Try at least f/11 & see if that helps. Post the pic.

It should tell you on the side of the lens what your minimum distance to the subject is for macro. For example, on the 24-105L IS USM it is 1.5'.

Thanks for the tips I am doing better now I think. But I will buy a macro lens in the near future.

A tripod will help too. It can be difficult to keep the camera still enough for cameras when you are close. It is a decent lens though, keep with it!

BTW, if you do get a macro lens you will have a great time. They can be a lot of fun.
