i read in a review (somewhere on the web) that you could use AAs as a backup battery for the Rebel. Does any one know if this is true? I have a bunch of rechargable AA's from my old coolpix and was thinking not to get a backup battery if this is the case. I just ordered my Rebel so i would like to put in an order for a spare battery (before it ships) if using the AAs is not advisable for any reason.
thanks

AA's wont fit?
Get a decent name brand Lithium battery,. you will be happy you did. They last about 450 shots!!!!

Are you asking about the Rebel, or the Digital Rebel?
I don't think there is any way in hell to run either one off AA batteries.
(1) AA batteries won't fit.
(2) Even if you managed to get two AA batteries stuffed into the right battery pack, you'd still have only about 3 volts total, and that is completely wrong for running either one.
(3) Even if you figured out how to more than double the voltage, I don't think you would have much current capacity. Lithium primary batteries are for the Rebel, and Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries are for the Digital Rebel.

Wrong.
The battery grip for the rebel 2000 uses 4 AA batteries.

Yup, you got me on that one. I know several people who use one of the film Rebels, and nobody uses a grip for it.
The film Rebels use two 3-volt lithium batteries, so I guess one set of four AA batteries would do the trick.
Does anybody actually use a grip for a film Rebel?

I've got the the rebel 2000 but dont have the grip, i wish i would have just bought it, i've spent a ton on those darn batteries. And the fact that the camera doesnt have an auto off doesnt help.
