When they decide to. Unfortunately, Canon rebates are not predictable anymore. Sometimes they are trying to get rid of inventory, sometimes they are just selling certain models, but recently, no clear reasoning. Sorry. I've been looking too. I just bought a 70-200 2.8 IS right after the double rebate. :(

Same here with the 17-40. Who knows when they will be offered. If they were smart they would do them at tax time when we get our refunds!

They extended the last rebate period which will probably delay the next

I think Canon doesn't have to depend on rebates and maybe their last round was so awful, they have to find a new company to run it. Really, I think they screwed up so badly.

Having participated in the one before last, I can tell you it was just as bad. Searching here, it looks as if all had some problems. My tally stands at:
1 - haste free
2 - received after much finagling
1 - written off. Multiple attempts yielded nothing. Coming up to 1 year in June.

Why? I sent my rebate info in March 16 and just got my check from Canon today for my 100 f2. Didn't have any problems last summer with a 5D rebate check taking 6 weeks.

Im waiting too. Although Im not sure the lenses Im interested in are going to be in the program. Just seems to me with the program already in affect in Canada and UK we should be seeing it any day.

I sent my original at Thanksgiving and didn't get anything done until I submitted a second time. Just got it a few weeks ago. They sent me my check and then sent me a postcard that said I didn't send in my UPC's for my first submission. Get the feeling not everyone who sent in the rebate forms are dealt with yet.

I don't understand all of the problems people seem to have with the rebates. I've participated in the last 4 rebates and have not had one single problem. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it seems like a lot of the problems are related to problems with the submissions themselves. I always pre-qualify on line, make sure that I send in exactly what they ask for, and always photocopy everything before mailing (however, I've never needed to use the copies). I think the longest it ever took to get the rebate was 7 weeks.

Trying not to be too defensive, but for those of us who did exactly what was required and got very little at first response from Canon, I did make copies and that's how I got my double rebate the second time in 3 weeks. Congrats to those who got their rebates without any problems. No one is perfect, but many of us photographers are neurotic about stuff like rebates and would not have sent it in without double, triple checking first. :)

Well, so far I'm 2 and 0.
Bought my 20D in July 2005, no hassle getting the $100 rebate other than the very long wait - almost 12 weeks.
Picked up a 24-70L in December 2006, didn't get around to doing the rebate until mid-Februrary 2007 and got the check in about six weeks (3/30/2007).
Not saying there aren't problems, but so far I've had good service.

I'm just curious Suzie, did you pre-qualify on the Canon rebate site? As I said, I'm sure there are exceptions (people who did every thing right and had trouble). I'm just trying to get a feel for how important pre-qualifying may or may not be. Kudos to you for keeping backup documentation. You can never be too careful IMO.
(I have to admit that despite the good experience I've had in the past, I was a bit nervous, due to all of the horror stories, this last time around with $690 on the line.)

I bought some lenses & a flash on the double rebate 12-18mos ago. I prequalified on line, sent everything in EXACTLY as instructed & NOTHING. When I called them, they had no record of receiving my pw!!! I'd mailed it directly from the PO & used additional postage. Fortunately, I'd made copies of everything & re-submitted. I was not impressed & I'm usually a big Canon supporter.

Yes, I pre-qualified and tracked it from the time I sent it in. If you look at the thread on the fall rebates, you will already know that I not only sent everything in, but I actually TAPE the UPC's onto the rebate form itself, and put an address label on the back of every piece of paper I submitted. The chances of anything getting loose or lost is none, IMO. I am extremely competent about such things. That's why I had back ups for my back up copies. I even made a copy of my copies before sending in #2.

I agree, mostly. I would be glad to just see some discount, or auto rebate at the cash register instead of this rebate game/crap/fraud.

I heard that there is a 90day period between rebate periods. They extended the last period, so that will push our period a few weeks/months.

Eh? Canon were supposed to offer rebates for Europe, not for the US.
Canon Europe has already launched rebates here... and the 16-35 II is on the list already!! :D

The uk and europe round of rebates currently running is for the 20th anniversary of the EOS system. if they are tied to an event and the US has already had these then maybe you won't get them but you do seem to get more of them than us here in the UK. I've just bought a 430EX and am about to submit my rebate any pointers for successful application? I got the free memory card for my 400d really quickly.
