I was thrilled to see this beauty super close yesterday. Nearly full breeding colors. The bill will turn black soon. Amazing how much green they really have in their heads if the light shines just right. On a gray day, their heads look totally black. This loon was popping up so close to the edge of the inlet most times it was impossible to get a full shot of it. I had to back up. Tough to shoot as it was actively diving.

Wow, wonderful loon series, Bob! That's very close. I didn't even know their head is dark green until i saw these photos. Wish these were mine.

Wonderful shots....they stay so low in the water. I really like the shot with both eyes in view.

Great shots Bob. We love loons but usually have to wait until Maine to see them looking like this. Now if they would only stay until we can get down again but that won't be for two weeks. They'll no doubt be gone by then.

They look great though Bob. Once again, very well done.

Stunning shots of the Loon. Can't choose a favorite here since they are all great. Excellent work as always Bob. :-)

I'm surprised I found this at the bottom of page two with only 8 replies and ~ 90 views. Nice series with awesome close-ups. Looks like this guy is banded?

Thanks everyone! Dancad...good catch. I noticed the band as well, but only after I took the shots. Neat!

Great series. I like the fourth and fifth shots the best. Boy, they really sit low in the water, don't they.
