Tom, I'm really impressed. These are great shots, in that they speak volumes of a certain reality that exists in the world. I'd love to hear a bit of background in regards to these.

In terms of CC, I honestly would have approached the first shot differently. I understand your rationale for including the top sign, influencing you to use a portrait frame, however, while your composition is good, for me, it detracts the interest from what I think is the more interesting subject. The signs take half the photo, and honestly, you don't need them to convey the seediness of the place. The girl is enough, that backdrop is enough. I'd have approached it as an urban/glamour/portraiture type shot with a great deal of environmental depth, landscape format, probably moving slighly forward, angling the camera towards the right a little more so that she faces you more towards a 45 degree angle. but thats my take... ;)

as for the 2nd, this is also very good, but I wish you'd let these two have a little space to breathe. The crop edges a little tightly for me. Either way, I like them very much - keep taking photos like these, and you're no doubt going to be one of my fav photographers on here. :)

"Earn $$$$ While You Learn."

They just come right out and say it, don't they?

I like the first shot but it's difficult to tell if the subject is the "swinger" or the sign or both... and having the sign cut off is a bit distracting (unavoidable at this angle, to keep the girl in the frame). I still like them. There's an old school quality to them.

Tom, I'm digging the first, the B/W conversion works really well here. I like the way you used a wide lens and came up close to make the shot. Sure the lines aren't really horizontal nor vertical but most street shots are hardly ever technically perfect anyway. It's all about the moment. If I were to nitpick I would say to coax out the texture to make the pic a bit grittier, but it's really fine the way it is.

The chopped sign really bothered my for a while, but like BB says below, street shots are what they are.

How would I "coax out texture?" Add noise? Thanks for the comments!

Lovely captures,

personally I would of set the camera to focus on the girl on the left or right, and providing they were swinging in tune you could of got them both in good/perfect focus.

Apart from that I love them! :D

Well done!

Great to see my sister is finally livin' the American dream :-)

First shot is strong and shame about some of the angles. That's the problem with the real world eh? Never seems to arrange itself perfectly for us street shootin' types ;-)
