Thanks for the information. I cannot afford a custom built machine so must buy "off the shelf." That being said, I was hoping for some feedback re one brand versus another. I have a Dell laptop that I use for other things and have had good luck with it, although other people I know have Dell desktops and have had a fair amount of issues with them. In view of most of the effort going to laptops, I was wondering if the same quality is still being put into desktops or are the manufacturers treating them like old news and really cutting corners? I guess what I am looking for are names of computers that have proven to you folks out there to be of good quality and dependable. Thanks from the long winded one!

I have a self built but I also have friends that use Dell and they are very happy. No problems.. Lap top's due to their nature, that is, they are always being moved around and bumped and dropped etc. :D don't hold up as well as desk computers. Dell will custom build what you need!!!! so will lots of computer companies,, Gateway, Compusa, and others. Try your local shops. (find on that has been in business for a while :? ) As another poster said get as much power and storage as you can afford so you won't be having to upgrade next week :D :D

Good Luck

Jerry, I went into your site and really enjoyed your animal shots. I especially can identify with the cat on the couch as I have a similar shot of my cat, an overweight beast named morris. Only difference is color, mine's orange. Thanks for the input on my search for desktop info.
