I recently went to one of my highschools baseball game where i captured a decent photo of the pitcher. I decided to print an 8x10 and give it to him. When he saw it he got that face that was...well, like this
"Dude thats awsome! Thanks buddy"
By the end of the day the entire baseball team wanted to know why they hadnt gotten a photo of them, and nearly the entire baseball coaching staff brought it up.
The attention was fine and dandy, but as an athlete myself, it was a great feeling to see how excited he was of the photo.
Moral of the story, share with your subjects, sell to everyone else and then everyone is happy :-D

No Timmy the moral to the story is...you give one guy a picture and then the whole team wants one of them. Next thing you know it cost you $30 to attend a high school baseball game.
Solution, tell the team you can't give evryone a picture but, you will put all their jersey numbers in a hat and draw one. That guy gets the freebie that week and the rest are for sale. Of course your number only goes into the hat once so everyone should get a freebie. You make some sales and a little bit of cash, unless your ruthless and charge them $30 for an 8x10 LOL

No, it already occured to me how quickly this could add up. At the end of the season i'll just put them on the internet and if they want one i'll charge em $15 and make about 10 off of it :-)

Timmy the reason I posted that is I have a buddy who was shooting his daughters soccer games and then handing out prints to the kids. He said it was amazing how there weren't many "Gee thanks" and no offers to pay. It came to a point where they expected some shots after evry game. Now he was printing them at home so his costs weren't real high but still, I imagine it was costing him $30 a game, not to mention his time shooting, editting and printing.
Let them know your not wanting to buy a new Corvette off of them but, your name isn't J. Paul Gotitall either.

When you give away your work for free, it is assumed it is worth that much. If you charge, then it takes on a new meaning.

Do you have any of those baseball pics on the internet yet?
Also, what lens do you use to take sports shots?
