I've just taken delivery of this lens, taken a few test shots & everything looks as good as I'd heard they would. One question though..the focusing ring seems to have a little play in it, only slightly but I was just wondering if this was the norm?

Thanks.

Same on mine - not an L lens therefore construction not top class but results are!

Same here, but otherwise a truely excellent lens.

I actually go out of my way to use this lens whenever I can. 8)

Yep. same here. This is my principal lens, unless there's a reason I need the wider range of the EF-S.

Since all you 50mm/1.4 owners have been rounded up into one thread, may I ask if you find the lens makes quite a noise when it focuses? Mine is much louder and slower focusing than my 24-85mm zoom.

Yes this is normal

Yes - the 50 f/1.4 uses the older style micromotor USM rather than the ring-type used on your 24-85. Its faster and quieter than the 50 f/1.8 with its non-USM, but not as fast or as quiet as the ring-type.

Also, while you 50mm f1.4 lens owners are here do you find you have problems getting the built-in coffee maker to work ?

No, just me then. Damn.

Only joking, love this lens and love the out of focus bits as much as the in focus bits. Which is good, because I get a lot of shots like that.

I'm finding that using standard Mr. Coffee (tm) filters is giving me slightly soft images. I heard that a polarizer filter will also prevent coffee grounds from getting into the coffee, provided it is set up correctly. Should I change filters?

I'm having the hardest time while using my coffee maker, trying to get the built in 50mm f1.4L lens to work... Any suggestions???
