It started as a poor scan of a nice photo so took a lot of work to get it presentable.

Keep working at it, doesn't look that impressive. The subject is too centered in the frame. Try a tigher crop too.

I would like to see more detail in the base as well. I think if your going to do Sepia tone I would like to see a dramatic sky or something. I think color would probably work better with this image.

Yea likely, the color didnt come over in the scan however so there wasnt a lot too work with.

The second one is better, yes. But the lighthouse is too near the edge of the frame unfortunately.

Both of these do not work for me at all. The first is too dark along the base and I personally think the right side is too bright for my taste. The second has almost no definition at all and consists of mostly shadows across the entire image, not to mention the proximity to the left side of the shot.
