This is my S&W 4013 taken with my new 70-300mm zoom under the crappy kitchen light, which gives it that pale orange yellow color. Would this be better with a Speedlight? I'm trying to justify the cost of a 430 Speedlight.

The WB is off, if you turn down the temperature like the following poster did, the colors should look more natural.

WOW!!!!!
STRMRDR, That's what I was going for in the first pic. I didn't try the BW, but the first pic cleaned up that orange light great! How did you do that???? The silver of the gun and the purple of the cloth was perfect! I was just using the AWB because I really wasn't sure how to clean up the crappy kitchen light. I don't know if the flash is as important as a GOOD working knowledge of white balance settings would be. Thanks!!!!!

P.S. I like the .40 cal. It's close to accurate as the 9mm, but with a closer knock down to the .45 cal. It's the best of both worlds!!!! Not to mention, this weapon will fit nicely under a light jacket, long shirt, or in a backpack. Wonderful weapon, Highly recommended and I've owned a few handguns and this is my fave.

used curves in photoshop and just played with it.
I started with auto and went from there.

you can do the same thing using color balance...
kick the blue and green and decrease the red slighly.
note: its a little green but thats because I didnt spend a lot of time fine tuning it another 2-3 min. would have fixed it.

3rd way of doing it is using the WhiBal Plug-In.

select light gray and click on the slide...

using any of those 3 methods or combining them will give you the same results.
I didn't bother to make all the images identical but could have,,,

my favorite is the b&w.

I like the photoshop result better, but I just installed photoshop CS2 and I haven't learned how to use it yet. I know there's a better photoshop, but this one was free. I also like the result of the WhiBal also. You do a great job with this stuff! I'm new to the digital photography world. I was into 35mm in college....so now I have to learn a new camera AND computer software, but I really like the results. A thousand thanks for your input and the link to WhiBal...you guys never cease to amaze me.
I also like the B&W, but I don't have the problems with it as much as color. As for the white balance settings on my camera.....ehhh....I really need some practice with that. I've tinkered with the settings, but never found a formula that I can use yet. Yep..Ima noob.

I use cs2 and have no plans to get 3 anytime soon.
it does everything I need it too do.

Shooting in raw and setting your own white balance in software is likely the easiest route.

Eh....uhummm....I.....uh.....I'm really not supposed to tell. It really wasn't free....I had to pay $10 for shipping. Not to mention, I'm not sure if it even works correctly because I haven't fully learned to use it yet.
