This is a family from Gerogia that I was skiing with yesterday and they wanted me to take a few family photos. this was the best one I got of the entire family. I know there are a few things wrong with it, they're looking too much into the sun and the bottom of one of the skis is cut off.
I showed this to them and they thought it was great, given they don't know much about photography.
So what does everyone else thing?

I don't know much about photography either but I think it's a very nice shot. It's set up nice and it tells a story of a family having a great vacation.

My only criticism would be the tops of the skis disappearing into (or behind) people's heads. Other than that it is a great shot!

I think it would do a lot to run it through Neat Image to reduce the noise that shows up on the faces of the skiiers.

Could also simply be the low-res picture. I tried the filter and it made a bit of a difference but would show more of a difference on the original full-size pic.

Bruce- It was a great vacation, we had a wonderful time together

Tom- Thanks

Crissa- I didn't notice that at first, but it's a good point about the skis. The dad was kinda pushy and he tried to take over the shoot, so i finally gave up and stoped telling them what to do. The one thing i did win with was having the girl in blue get down on one knee. When she was standing up, she covered too much of the mom, and i thought it was just a better use of space this way.

Bull- What is Neat Image, never heard of it.

It a good simple program that does a fantastic job of removing noise (grain) from the picture. Especially pictures taken in low light. It has saved numerous pictures from the recycle bin for me.

nice change, i think it might be a little too much though, it makes the faces look a little red. but the first one does need some more saturation.

Great shot. I wish I could have run into you so you could have taken a shot of my family and I--we were skiing at Breckenridge on Monday and Friday last week! It would have taken lots of people to round us up--my daughter skis the blue and green, my son heads to the double black and my wife and I go to the black and blue! We sometimes happen to ride together! Your shot looks like one of the Mountain Imaging ones.

haha, it was great on friday wasn't it? We had a good time. this family hasn't skied in about 10 years so we stuck to the green runs. lucky for me and my friend, one green run goes right next to a park, so we can show off for the girls and still ski with them.
The "Mountain Imaging" or sharp shooters really bug me. They're so terrible at everything, the way the set up the shots, the way they have people pose..... this one girl there even shot everything through her mirror goggles..... aaaaaaahhhhhh

Wow, mid-April and still great snow (at least up on the mountain)!

I really miss not being able to ski anymore.

I think it's a nice vacation snapshot. Nothing wrong with that.

it does get pretty slushy and brown at the bottom. i've already had to do some pond skimming

If I understand what you mean about her shooting through the goggles, she actually might be quite smart. If she doesn't have a polarizing filter or if shes using a P&S camera, shooting through the goggles will have a similar effect to the filter. It will cut down greatly on the glare off of the snow and produce a very nice shot.

haha, right you are. but she was using a nikon D70 or D50 (i think) and she was shooting with her goggles on her head, not infront of the lense. her goggles were between her eye and the viewfinder.
i was so amazed i had to snap a quick picture
