I have a 350D (Rebel XT) and that rubber around the eyepiece keeps falling off. Usually not 100% but often it's 50% off and I have to wiggle it back onto the holder. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix such as a small drop of silicone or should I just buy a new eye piece?

Several people here have tried do it yourself fixes that have worked well...a dab of glue or a spot of silicone have worked for others...if it doesn't work...a new eyepiece isn't that expensive.

Sounds like you need a smaller size to fit your little gear.

For a while, it was just a corner, but last week half or more popped off. Is it just stretching and time for a new one?

an eye piece for your camera is about eleven dollars at the local store.. (if I remember correctly)..

Maybe the rubber cushion just needs re-seating. Failing that I wouldn't be afraid to put a very small dab of clear silicone sealant on it.

However, if you know anyone in the glass business (windows for commercial buildings), they use a structural grade silicone that is black, and would hardly show. This type of silicone sealant will outlast the camera - literally. It is used to afix sealed window units to curtain wall systems of high-rise buildings - it's very durable and strong.

I was going to make a comment and then I saw he was talking about a camera.

Stick a layer of good ol' gaffers tape on the back and it should fit just fine...

This thread has more than your usual views. Wonder if it has anything to do with the title?? LOL

I've had to replace the eyecup on the XT. It's pretty common I guess. If you don't have a local store, you can get one HERE. Where can I purchase gaffers tape? Is it available in a "consumer store" or is this a speciality store purchase?

What brand rubbers are you using?

And please be careful, you can get in a lot of trouble if it falls off.
