Another weekend at a race circuit and used my 300mm but this time with the x2 TC for some of the shots. The light went from sun to very overcast about every five minutes so the day was quite a challenge.
Hope you like this example taken with my 1D, 300mm+x2TC and ISO200, 1/400, F8, IS Off, Monopod. No sharpening applied, only resized and sig added.

Looks great Kenny!
...may I ask, why would you turn the IS off when your shutter speeds are being compromised by the aperture and haze?
Just curious if there was an advantage?

Very nice shot, Kenny.
What Formula is that? Is that a motorcycle exhaust I see on the second car?

Sharp, beautiful colors, nice isolation, nice sense of motion in the tires. Nice shot!

Well spotted. It is Formula Jedi, www.jedi-racing.com
Sorry, I shoud have said I was experimenting with various set-ups during that session. I used the 300 on its own, with the 1.4 and 2.0, with and without IS. It just happens that shot was a +2.0 without IS. For comparison, this is 300mm+1.4 at 1/320, F11, with IS On.

Heading off now for the second day and a bit more experimentation. Just hope the rain stops before the racing starts at lunchtime.

Can barely tell the difference between the two. Do you think your
comparisons would have been as close quality-wise had you been shooting with a 4.0 or a 4.5 lens? I'd really like to know.
I love racing shots like these and hope to have occaision to shoot some
one day.
