I am not sure where to post this topic. Pardon me if this sound like a silly question. I am aware that there's a grid focus screen but I was wondering if there's one particularly that shows grid lines to follow the rule of thirds like a tic-tac-toe?

Yes. Go to Katz Eye Optics (http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/). They make such a screen for many cameras.
I have one of these in my XT and like it very much.

The "rule of thirds" grid is one of the display options on the Canon G7; I wonder if it couldn't somehow be a hack for another Canon camera?

I just checked out the page, it doesn't show it's for the 5d only for the 1.6x crop cameras, or am I missing something?

I don't believe that Katz provides a screen for the 5D at this time but are working on it.
There is a screen for the 5D from brightscreen:

They will do a rule of thirds scribings for you.
The only issue is that there *can* be a bit of an EC issue (apparently not much) if you have the split prism screen in place and in spot metering mode. Apparently it can cause a bit of need for a some EC to be dialed in since the spit prism part just about covers the entire spot metering area.
One problem with rule of thirds screens is that the VF is not the same proportions as most papers that you print on. So, if you shoot using the rule of thirds to position it on the VF, you still need to crop to make it fit on the paper, and then it is not rule of thirds anymore.
What would be interesting is if someone would do a screen with the size of most prints on it (roughly matching 8x10, for example) and then put rule of thirds IN that area.

For the 5D it's the Canon Ee-D screen that has the grid. It is very helpful for accurate composition and can be installed by the user. Just read the directions and change the custom function to match it.

The OP wants a thirds grid which the Ee-D is not. The Ee-D has 3 horizontal and 5 vertical lines.
